The RiffTrax player is now available! If you've been waiting for a way to make watching RiffTrax'd movies easier, that day has arrived (but seriously, its not difficult at all to watch it the normal way.) Read more about it and download it (it's free) here: shop.rifftrax.com/rifftrax-playerNot all titles are currently available in RiffTrax Player format (.riff files) but we are working on making the entire catalogue available in this format. Best of all, if you already have bought a movie with a .riff file created for it, it will show up in the "My Files" area when you log in at RiffTrax.com

Not all titles are currently available in RiffTrax Player format (.riff files) If they made .riff so it could handle silhouette overlays, then Cinematic Titanic could work like Riff-Trax and not worry about licensing movies. Or even better- make the program able to edit and jump-cut throughout the movie. Then MST could release practically every episode where the movie has come out on DVD. The quality would look even better than the original episodes, since many films have been digitally restored by now. (MST relied on VHS transfers, I believe.)

More titles have been added, and our entire catalogue is quickly becoming available in .riff format. Here is a list of available titles: shop.rifftrax.com/rifftrax-player-titlesPlease note that future releases, such as Transformers, will have .riff files available for download at the same time the regular RiffTrax mp3s are released.

"Dis vil simplify everything!"
Great idea, love the rifftrax but sadly, my laptop doesn't. If I ever get a real computer this will work out great.
Keep up the good work

I grabbed the player and the .riff files I'm qualified to download (along with the MP3s--can't be too safe!). I plan to try this out with Willy Wonka first to see how the test goes. Very promising, and I like the UI quite a bit.

Excellent stuff. Extremly simple as complicated it gets (then it's a piece of cake from there). I like it!

Just tried it out yesterday. Worked almost like a charm, and certainly as good as manual syncing, without any of the bother.

We are actually starting to get emails from people wondering when <Insert Title> will be available in a .riff, since we've spoiled them so much now that the player handles all syncing duties for them We're working on some cool stuff for the player's future, so stay tuned for that.

This is actually a really interesting idea... obviously within a custom player it would be completely doable. I wonder how the copyright side of things would end fall out with regards to dumping out a video stream combining to two (in theory). I would think if kept for personal use only it should fall under fair use. And what about with HDDVD/BluRay.. they can do full video overlay. So one's "archival backup" could be burned with an optional overlay.. might run even clearer into fair use as the video itself would be untouched. Even simpler, and probably more likely, would be the possibility of doing Film Crew type releases like this. Less technological issues, and even with current standard DVD specs you could make a non-computer version of such a video easily. No video transcoding or anything, just drop in some branching and alternate audio and all set.
