So, it's been a couple months now since the last Film Crew DVD came out, without any word of more coming from Shout Factory or The Film Crew themselves. Archive.org doesn't have an update for the Film Crew site since June 15, and that was just to add a link to rifftrax. And speaking of RiffTrax, Bill and Kevin appear to be permanent additions to RiffTrax. Nine out of the last twelve releases have had all three of them participating. Bill and Kevin are regular posters to the rifftrax blog, which I just found out about.
Add all this into the fact that Joel is about to come out with Cinematic Titaninc which would be direct competition to The Film Crew DVDs, and I think it becomes clear that the Film Crew as an entity seperate from RiffTrax is as good as dead.
I.e. No more Film Crew DVDs.
Oh well. The four they did make are really good, IMO, and now there's CT from Joel and RiffTrax for those who like the new movie riffs and don't mind the piecemeal delivery system. I never got into RiffTrax, but hopefully CT will really hit the spot for old cheesy movie riffs wrapped in a premise, which is how I likes it.
What's you all's opinion?

After the Star Wars Holiday Special (not to mention Missile to the Moon, which I have yet to see), it seems like there is a lot of room for rifftrax to do some other older films. There are so many available online (both Google Video, and more importantly on the archive.org site) that they could essentially do Film Crew without host segments for a few bucks a pop.

With new additions like Video On Demand, restrictions such as "a bunch of people having the DVD" don't really need to be as stringent for RiffTrax in the future. Keep an eye out for a brand new Christmas short later this week. I wouldn't rule out future DVD releases either.

What's you all's opinion? It's crossover time! I'd love it if Bill, Mike & Kevin were invited to work with the CT crew on future releases. Plus with 3 extra snarky dudes, it would feel even more like a theatre full of people talking over the movie! And the very idea of Joel & Mike riffing together...is what MSTie dreams are made of.

I've been kind of preaching that Film Crew is dead for several months now...ever since TorgosPizza (rifftrax employee on the RiffTrax forum) asked Mike strait up what the deal was with Film Crew and Mike said "it was dead in the water". I seemed to mention it around here a few times but I guess folks either didn't read it or want to believe it. I know BobHoncho was hanging out, when the DVD's first came out, telling people they were hoping to get the guys back in for future recordings. But I think that was more wishful thinking. Note This:Now that there has been a wiff of riffing competition in the air (CT), I've noticed RiffTrax has kicked it up a notch. Coincidence? or are they trying to provide a better product to keep our business? Some of the things I have noticed: - Riffing older flicks like Missile to the Moon, Star Wars HS. - Guest riffers like Fred Willard and we've seen Kevin and Bill in on all the other riffs since then. Been a while since a Mike a Kevin riff or a Mike Solo Riff. - RiffTrax player to make syncing easier - RiffTrax on Demand (promise of more DVD releases) Just remember this: competition benefits the customer So, don't feel bad that Film Crew is dead. I expect 2008 to be good to riff fans.

If you mean will they release anything under that name? Yes. If you mean are the three alive and riffing? No The Film Crew isn't dead, it's just now part of Rifftrax.

It's deader than Dick Nixon.
and if the Rifftrax has improved, it's about damn time.. it's just too bad that they didn't respect their customers enough to produce quality riffs until they got some competition.

Sadly, the Film Crew is dead, but everyone is working on other projects which we can still enjoy.

I was merely showing the work they've been doing the past couple months...work that has taken a good product and made it better.

I always thought the four dvds were a sort of pilot to test the waters and if they were successful then more would be made. I've seen two of them so far (Killers from space and Wild Women) and really love them. I'm sad if these are the first and last we'll see of TFC. I've been looking forward to trying rifftrax (still trying to settle on which movie to try), but I love the full package you get with TFC. Yes, I mean the host segments. Movie riffing is great, but I also enjoy seeing Mike, Kevin and Bill goofing around. Nothing has made me laugh harder than the ending host segment of Killers From Space where they demonstrated the bizarre extreme-close-up-while-other-guy-is-talking film technique employed in the film. It just has to be seen.
Ah well, at least we're getting Cinematic Titanic. Wonder if there's any chance for the gang to reunite...
