Now that they have competition I suspect that we can see some changes in the way rifftrax runs their operation. I suspect that the trax will take longer to write and they’ll be higher quality. I also suspect that we can see more cheesy movies as opposed to big Hollywood blockbusters, with a new emphasis on the VOD. They might also go back and re-do some of the other Mike titles since they’ve now set the precedent with this one. Just a prediction. Your first prediction would imply that we have been releasing RiffTrax that we don't believe are of the highest quality we could produce, which is absurd and offensive to anyone who's ever worked on one. According to Gammer, Plan 9 is our fiftieth RiffTrax release, (and thank god he's keeping track.) The way we run our operation will not be changed by the release of The Oozing Skull. VOD is indeed suited to cheesy movies, because VOD is suited to public domain movies, and often public domain = cheesy. So we do hope to release some cheesy stuff on VOD, but also hopefully be able to release VOD of some of the films we've already riffed. We don't intend to emphasize VOD over MP3, and anything that is VOD should be able to to be released as an MP3, since plenty of people still prefer that to Divx.

Also, are there any plans to make this commercially available? After all, Legend and Mike have worked together quite a bit, and they already released a commercial version of Plan 9 among many other movies. And all 3 have worked with Legend on the Stooges. It would be fantastic to see them release another version of Plan 9 with this new commentary. Maybe ti could include both Mike solo and then all 3 riffers. Yes, this thread is about it being made commercially available, as opposed to the live riff that is tomorrow in San Francisco. The three man riff won't be on DVD, but will be available as a standard RiffTrax mp3, .riff file and Divx download. It comes out on Tuesday.

I’m sorry if you chose to take offense to my comment. Do I think rifftrax are funny? Of course, I think they’re great! Do I think that they’re perfect and there’s no way they could be better somehow? Of course not, nothings perfect. We’re all just human and if we were able to reach perfection than we wouldn’t have anything to strive for.
The point I was trying to make in my post was that competition often encourages innovation and creativity. Do you really think that there’s no way known to man that your product could somehow be improved, or were you just being defensive?

I guess that's what I was trying to ask - if it could be released on DVD, just as the original Plan 9 with Mike's commentary was released on DVD. I guess there are no plans for that at the moment, but I have high hopes that it'll work itself out someday - a commercial disc, hopefully with both tracks of commentary (Mike, and Mike/Bill/Kevin). I'll certainly be buying the MP3, but I was just kinda excited that maybe there'd be a DVD too. A kid can dream, can't he?

I wonder if they'll reuse any of Mikes old jokes? Yes, they started with that script and then reworked it. Well, I hope most of it is fresh material and not trading off reading the same jokes. What am I saying? That's a nasty thought. "Strike that heinous comment from the records Muldoon!" I have the Legends release and I'm expecting that will be the version they riff. It will be nice not to have to buy/rent the DVD for a change. I will say that I liked the movie in B&W better than the colorized version so when I reauthor that's what I'm going to use.

I have confirmed that will be the version they are using. When I do my reauthor, I will include the color and B/W version. Same as the Missile to the Moon reauthor.

I already have it too along with all the other Legend releases, but for some reason I like to watch the color one with the commentary and then the black & white one without.

They're going to hit this one out of the park. My hopes are higher for this than they've been for any other individual release (since MST), including The Film Crew and CT, and I'm not at all nervous that they won't deliver. I can't wait! Not to rain on your parade, but you might not want to build it up too much. Everytime my hopes are that incredibly high I'm almost always a little disappointed the first time through.

Gammer compare them and do all the Legends. I did the Three Stooges ones in the Just Finished Watching thread, I need to go back and do the other Legends.

I hope the new Plan 9 Rifftrack goes well. I watched my (signed, thank you Mike) Legend copy last night to check out Vampira (R.I.P.) again. Her waist was truly the strangest thing in the movie. I couldn't help but try to imagine her naked...
But the movie wasn't done by MST for a reason. I can't see a lot of opportunities to improve on Mike's commentary. There IS a lot of scenes with people just standing around. But the alien-in-charge seems soooo "flambouyant", I can see great things when he's on screen.

I couldn't help but try to imagine her naked... Vampira's figure was made possible only by highly advanced girdle technology.

Why on earth is the Legend DVD required? I can't imagine there being many, or any, editing differences between the DVD and what you find online.
