Here is the transcript that AmandaGal captured:
[/b]Getting into a lot of rockabilly and old country being in Austin these days
‹Jinto› question: uh.. lemme think.. hmm.. stuff. yeah.. er.... what's your fav genre for books to read?
‹Lawgiver› Genre... I read a LOT of nonfiction...
‹Imrahil›I have a two part question; first, I see you using CT, but don't you think the abbreviations "CinTit" or "CineTit" pack more of a marketing punch? And b) How much input do the various members have on selecting titles for the Riff?
‹Lawgiver› I have used CinTit in the past but I feel slighty naughty in a bad way
‹Lawgiver› For RiffTrax I had a lot of input in selecting Glitter - Mike was game for a lot of stuff, and I chose Glitter
<sarcasm_made_ea› then do you beleive in an objective right and wrong or is it ALLL subjective
‹Lawgiver› Is that a question to me?
‹Lawgiver› Subjective, I'm afraid.
‹Tyrant› Apologies if this has been asked before, but I'd really like to know what your preferred genre of movie is to riff on?
‹Lawgiver› I don't know if they necessarily fall along genre lines.
‹Lawgiver› Bad, first of all.
‹Lawgiver› I tend to be able to sink my teeth into 70s and 80s movies
‹harpo› mary jo, i'd like to know more about the writing process.. for something like mst, CT, or rifftrax.. do you all get together to watch the film and come up with riffs?
‹harpo› or do you each watch the film on your own first?
‹Lawgiver› We all sat together in a writing room for MST.
‹Lawgiver› For RiffTrax, Mike and I each took a half of the movie.
‹Lawgiver› Then before we did it we rehearsed it and ironed out the kinks and came up with new stuff.
‹Lawgiver› For CT, we each wrote independently - ARGHHHH! BRAIN OF BLOOD KILLED ME!!
‹Lawgiver› And then when we came together to tape it we reviewed it together working out the kinks
‹harpo› do you ever have to fight over which riff to use if there's more than one? haha
‹Lawgiver› Yes. Some folks, I won't say who, carry guns.
‹Lawgiver› Some carry brass knuckles.
‹Lawgiver› I carry a fencing sword.
‹Lawgiver› Yes, sometimes we did/do argue about what works best.
‹Lawgiver› Making a case for what we think will work, or expressing being totally offended by something
‹Agent_Ispep› Giants or Patriots?
‹Lawgiver› Oh, well, I don't really follow field hockey, so I don't care who wins the NBA championships
‹Lawgiver› I'm sure they're all good and they're all pretty and they've all worked real real hard
‹FortisRevenge› okay, Hello Mary JO, So after contributing the the writing process with MST and CT, you have obviously watched a lot of bad movies. But what is one movie unrelated to MST or CT, that you have always enjoyed no matter how many times you have watched it?
‹Lawgiver› You mean not necessarily bad?
‹FortisRevenge› yeah
‹GregMcduck› I think he means guilty pleasure.
‹FortisRevenge› it could be bad, and you just get a sick pleasure out of it, its up to you
‹Lawgiver› Oh the list goes on! Goodfellas, The Princess Bride, Spinal Tap... sheesh...
‹Lawgiver› I'll confess to one that I may be mocked for
‹Lawgiver› Wait, no. Beg me.
‹sarcasm_made_ea› i beg you?
‹harpo› do tell, do tell!
‹GregMcduck› BEG BEG BEG
‹FortisRevenge› do tell, please
‹BeautifulMind› puh-lease tell us!!
‹FortisRevenge› millions will cheer huzzah if you tell
‹Lawgiver› I think Moonstruck is an absolutely lovely, quirky movie that gets me every time.
‹Lawgiver› Turns my heart like a fist into mush
‹Lawgiver› Also, any number of Coen Brothers stuff...
‹Red_Tape› I really enjoyed the work you did on Glitter (even though the movie by itself was pretty bad). Any chance you'll come back for more Rifftrax? or are you pretty much set with CT now?
‹Lawgiver› I'm hoping to do more with RiffTrax.. could happen...
‹mst3ktemple› OK. I'm not sure you can answer this, but is there any chance we can hear some of the upcoming CT titles?
‹Lawgiver› No, because we ain't got 'em yet! We're getting our machinery up and running!
‹BeautifulMind› First of all I'm so glad to chat with you. I'm a HUGE fan! Does work keep you away from home a lot? Is that a challenge?
‹Lawgiver› Yeah, I travel a lot. It wasn't a challenge til I fell for Mr. RAD.
‹Lawgiver› Now it's weird and hard to leave him, on those occasions when he doesn't come along
‹anais.jude› Mary Jo, HAve you seen the BAtman and Robin rifftrax? What was your fave joke? (*crosses fingers* hopes she picks one of mine)
‹Lawgiver› OHMYGOD, YOURS WAS MY FAVORITE JOKE! I LOVED THAT JOKE!
‹Tarantulas› Mary Jo: Who is John Brady and how did he get his part in MST3K:TM? Also, do you remember signing my MST3K:TM dvd cover in St. Louis in 2000 and then smudging the finger print in such a way that I can use it to frame you for all the fudge bars I stole from the freezer at work?
‹Lawgiver› John Brady was a minneapolis actor at the time (now in L.A.)
‹Lawgiver› Terrific friend of mine, I threw up in his car once.
‹Tarantulas› And my frame job?
‹Lawgiver› HI LAR E US FUNNY
‹Lawgiver› That's okay, I get framed for all the fudge bars in the world
‹atta_j._turk› Lawgiver, how many moview do you "know" CT is lined up for (how many titles are lined up?)
‹atta_j._turk› oops "movies" not "moview" which is a like cow porn or something
‹Lawgiver› We're not sure yet. It's a work in progress.
‹AvestheFox› alright... ahem... Good evening, Ms. Pehl, hope its been a good one for you. =) anyway, The Fox wants to know: 'I think I recall reading somewhere a year and five months and two weeks and three days and four hours back (perhaps from your website) that you were currently doing theater work. I'd like to know, (if my research is true, my memory is vague) what type of theater work do you do? (continued
‹AvestheFox› Is it writting and acting? or one of those two? And are you still doing theater work, or has CT pretty much taken up your time?'
‹Lawgiver› I've done some theeee-ay-ter, acting. Did some shows in Minneapolis, a dramm-a even!
‹Lawgiver› By that up and coming Arthur Miller!
‹RAD› Just for clarification; it isn't 'Ms. Pehl', it's 'Mrs. DeGroot'
‹Lawgiver› Here in Austin, I work with a radio play troupe, doing live performances of faux old tyme radio shows.
‹Lawgiver› RAD!! DAMN YOU!! I AM WOMEN'S LIBERATED!!
‹SaucyRossy› Hey MJ, thanks for doing this, TH RAD is really cool for setting it up also. I was wondering is there any plans to get CT on the Television (I know you guys just started and all but..) or are you Titans fine with keeping it as a dvd series?
‹RAD› Can I Has Cheezburger
Lawgiver[/b]› Oh, wow, I haven't thought that far ahead, Saucy. Maybe.
‹SaucyRossy› cus you know it is sorely missed
‹Lawgiver› Right now, it's relatively streamline and no muss, no fuss with studios.
‹Lawgiver› We can work on our own terms, which we like very much.
‹Lawgiver› I kinda think it's now an animal of all the new media, ya know?
‹Lawgiver› My guess is most of us, though speaking only for myself, like having more control and flexibility with the end result.
‹Lawgiver› Which is what the newfangled outlets afford us.
‹xmattxyzx› Mary Jo, do you ever get tired of being a role model for young girls?
‹Lawgiver› WAIT! HOLD ON! I WAS A ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG GIRLS?!?!
‹Lawgiver› Well, I kinda hope PEARL wasn't a role model.
‹Lawgiver› But if I was, by virtue of pursuing what I loved and getting to have a great job
‹Lawgiver› and trying to do my very best at it, and being a "full figured" woman on tv, well, cool.
‹Sideswipe› Mary Jo, if you were a giant transforming robot, what would you transform into, and what color would you be? Also what would your badass Transformer name be?
‹Lawgiver› My transformer name would be Cindy and I would turn into a transformer that could house homeless people
‹jewishcarpenter› w fo you objectively write a riff, do you look over scene and riff the bcakground or each frameand hope for deadspace between the lines or both?
‹Lawgiver› sometimes ya go hogwild, then you realize there's no space between dialogue.
‹Lawgiver› Sometimes you fixate on something that's evident on a still frame, and you think yer so great
‹Lawgiver› then when you run the movie at regular speed, the joke makes no sense cuz ya can't see it!
‹SaucyRossy› I got a Joel question, does he ever do random magic tricks or act like Agent J? I still watch his stand up on youtube. So funny.
‹Lawgiver› yeah, he's terrific. I used to work with him doing stand-up comedy at the various clubs in Minneapolis... way, way back...
‹GregMcduck› Alrighty. Here's a dirt-digging question which you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but what's the current status between you guys and Jim Mallon?
‹Lawgiver› ] JOEL is terrific, in case you think I'm answering the question about Jim. Personally, I've had no contact with Mr. Mallon for many years.
‹Stacey› Can I just ask: do you have special Targets in Minneapolis? (I love the Target.)
‹Lawgiver› Yes, our Targets are very, very special...
‹Lawgiver› We have a Super Duper Target that we do not tell outsiders about. It involves an initiation ritual.
‹Taufiq2u› When i return to the BBC in Autumn, i want to send in an idea to the BBC2 Commisioners to bring back MST3K and this time show it on British television. However, the rights to MST3K belongs to Jim Mallon. How can i contact him for the rights? And if i had the rights to make a British MST3K, would you mind leaving the USA for a job in BBC Television
‹Lawgiver› I'd go to the U.K in a heartbeat for such a project! I do not know how you'd contact Jim, however.
‹Lawgiver› Best of luck if you are able.
‹harpo› mary jo, i'd like to know what comedians/shows you grew up watching and inspired you?
‹Lawgiver› Harpo, I loved Laugh In (barely old enough to watch it, never got it), Carol Burnett Show, Night Gallery,
‹Natureboy› During the MST days, you guys seemed to stay away from current politics, since you could anger 50% of your viewership. It does seem that Frank after his Air America stint has become more vocal on his hatred of the Bush administration.....is this something that will continue and is every other riffer is cool with that?
‹Lawgiver› We really didn't stay away from politics for fear of angering people.
‹Lawgiver› There's tons of stuff that we did that wasn't political and potentially offended SOMEONE.
‹Lawgiver› It often just doesn't stand the test of time.
‹Lawgiver› But yeah, Frank is outspoken and hilarious and well versed about what's fu'd these days
‹Lawgiver› As for Frank being vocal about his opinion of the Bush administration, it's possible it could have been written by anyone of us, and he got the line assigned to him
‹SaucyRossy› MJ, do you think Bill, Kevin, and Mike could ever make a cameo or quest appearance on CT? Also the spot below Trace is empty could other people be guest riffers on CT ala Weird Al on rifftrax?
‹Lawgiver› Ya know, Mike Kevin and Bill guesting would be GRRRREAT!! Possible, yes. Who knows!
‹harpo› how do you all decide who says what riff? especially in the mst days when you were all writing together
‹Lawgiver› On MST, ya just "felt" who might deliver a line. Or sometimes someone would have a special gift for an accent or sometihing
‹RAD› Gawd we love you guys! But we're aging septuagenarians and I've got to give Mary Jo some warm milk as we toddle off to bed. Thanks for being here!
‹Lawgiver› THanks y'all! Come back now, y' hear??
‹Imrahil› Mary Jo--do more NPR spots!
‹Imrahil› You haven't been on there since...2004?
‹BeautifulMind› i wanted to know more about that reading buddy ting
‹Lawgiver› That's true, Imrahil - they changed up my contact person, and then you can't get anyone to listen to your new stuff
‹Lawgiver› Reading buddies is great. Emily wears purple corduroy pants and bright yellow shirts.
Lawgiver[/b]› Yesterday, she rolled into the library. Rolling her body down the ramp into the library.
Lawgiver[/b]› I love her creative entrances. Oh, that's probably what you didn't want to know.
‹Lawgiver› It's a program through Austin Public Schools.
‹atta_j._turk› MJ, your blog is terrific, and it just so happens your "loving lovers love" duet with Bill was a triumph on You Tube!
‹Lawgiver› Thanks for the good words on the blog, all! I'm gonna do another podcast this weekend. Um, right, RAD?!?1
‹RAD› Hey, Wife MIne, wanna do another Podcast this weekend?
‹Lawgiver› oh, all right, RAD. Geeeez.
‹RAD› Oh God. Have we really got to this point? Being one room away and communicating over the computer?!?
‹mst3ktemple› I visited Austin back in 1999 and it happedn to be Lance Armstrong day. There were thousands of yellow balloons all around the state capital
‹Lawgiver› EVERY DAY IS LANCE ARMSTRONG DAY
‹AvestheFox› RAD, welcome to the American dream
‹Tyrant› Pak and I do that all the time.
‹Lawgiver› Honey, we need milk. And bread.
‹harpo› it's like you two are at university, that's how the college kids communicate
‹Lawgiver› Did anyone see the news story about the couple that went on a date.
‹Lawgiver› sat next to each other with their laptops
‹Lawgiver› and IM'd? because they were just more comfortable with that
‹Taufiq2u› Hey Mary Jo, what's your favourite British comedy? And who's your favourite Doctor Who?
‹Lawgiver› Love the British OFfice and Fawlty Towers and To The Manor Born
‹sarcasm_made_ea› mary jo whats your favorite coffee?
‹Lawgiver› I don't drink coffee. I'm a hot coco gal.
‹Lawgiver› I'm going to try Chai one of these days. But I'm skairt
‹SaucyRossy› MJ did you see the blog post Bill did today about you and Total Husband? Entitled Shame on you, Mary Jo Pehl
blog.rifftrax.com/2008/...o-pehl/ ‹Lawgiver› Saucy - yeah. I saw that. I sure did. I surrrrre did.
‹Lawgiver› Everyone, I'm going to sign off. Can we do this again sometime? RAD has promised to take me to din-din.
‹Lawgiver› And you know I have to eat every 30 seconds or so, cuz of my blood sugar and my hypothalmus and my glaucoma..
‹Lawgiver› and um, oh, yeah, my pleurisy... and consumption..
‹Taufiq2u› Okay, i'm leaving Mary Jo. Final question: What's your message to me and my fellow British & Overseas MST3K fans?
‹Lawgiver› BRING US OVER THERE! WE SPEAK THE LANGUAGE PRETTY GOOD N' JUNK!
‹Lawgiver› We want to rock your British world! And stay at the new Beatles theme hotel
‹Lawgiver› So long everybody!
