I don't mean tough because the jokes didn't strike you, but tough because you love the source material, the movie a lot.
I gotta sense of humor, always said that if you make me laugh you can riff on anything. If I'm in the mood for the movie I'll watch it unriffed and vice versa, I see the 2 as seperate entities.
BUT - I can't find my damned copy of Casino Royale! And I want to watch it again because I love it so.
I've moved so often and lived with so many different people the past 4 months that I could have left it anywhere. So I thought hell, I'll watch the Rifftrax, but it was distratcting because I was getting into the movie so much.
I can handle them knocking my beloved Spiderman and X-Men. I can take 'em making fun of Heroes because as much as I dig that show, there are moments that are ripe for the picking, but Casino Royale...
It's got some great riffs and is very funny but it gotta be the toughest one for me to watch because when I'm in the mood for Royale, I want the unriffed version first and formost.
Damn, where did I leave that thing...?

I have yet to purchase this one, but I'm terrified about Lord of the Rings. I loved that move so intensely, I don't think I could even deal with Mike and Co. riffing on it. I'm sure it's hilarious, and you certainly won't see me screaming "BLASPHEMY!" and shunning them forever, but let's face it, when those guys riff a movie, you remember it. Those silly imperfections of the film are suddenly smacking you in the face, and I'm convinced you don't look at the movie the same way again. I just don't think I want LOTR changed like that... But as far as one I have seen, there were a couple of moments during Transformers (which I thought was awesome) where I was like, "Mike, can you shut up for a minute so I can watch the movie??!!" I was surprised at myself, as I thought I would never say such a thing!

I think a bunch of people refuse to watch Raiders for the same reason. Also I am pretty sure Mike has mentioned that he likes the LOTR films.

There's nothing to be afraid of. Most of the riffs of the "good" movies are just incidental riffs on what's going on on the screen, nothing savage about the movie itself.

Both LOTR and Transformers get some "gentle abuse" thrown their way in that movie...

If its a new movie to me and I think I'd get into it, then I watch it first without rifftrax. Then when I do watch it with RiffTrax, I'm not straining to figure out whats going on AND listen to the jokes.

I was all whiny when they chose Raiders, and it's currently #1 on my favorites list, so I've lost credibility with myself. Even so, the one Rifftrax I haven't watched is LoTR. It's been sitting on my shelf for months now.

It's one of my fave RTs.

I've really liked most of the Trax for movies I liked, and liking the movie helped in that factor as it was an enjoyable watch. I loved Transformers yet the crew butchering it is one of my absolute favourite Rifftrax. I haven't watched Raiders yet but LOTR was enjoyable so I'm not afraid to see it.
I think one problem is something Queen pointed out, they bring attention to little faults that you may allow yourself to overlook because you enjoy the movie. The problem is is that thanks to these guys I've started to do it to any movie i see even if they don't riff on it. I enjoyed Cloverfield while watching it but then I started picking it apart and now I'm not so sure. Of course a part of this is thanks to the way I think so I'm not blaming Rifftrax for ruining movies for me.

Especially with tv shows, because most are real easy targets to pick apart. Drives my wife nuts.

the difference for me is that while I adore Spidey and it has it's human real elements, it is a fantasy, wild and out there and you can have fun with a lot of it. Even LOTR can be teased and the guys do so lovingly and were not in "attack" mode and did more silly, voice over things. But Casino has many real, heartfelt sequences. The scene in the shower I thought was beautiful, touching and I was like, "guys don't sully this poigniant moment for me". lol The same with Vespers death. The outlandish bits in the film I was more okay with, the big chase at the airport for example offers many big laughs. Things like that I didn't have a problem with it. I'm just too emotionally invested with CR I guess.

I was skeptical of Fellowship of the Ring and LOST, since I place both at the very top of my "favorite things to watch ever" list.
Fellowship, especially, is a deeply personal and emotionally affecting film for me.
But I loved both Rifftrax. (Rifftraxes?)
What's really fun is that Mrs. Atari can rarely make it more than about 5 minutes on any MST ep, but she'll watch an entire Rifftrax on a movie she loves. The Bourne Identity and Casino Royale were great date nights for us.
She'll never be a die-hard MSTie. But thanks to Mike's willingness to riff good movies, I can now share my obsession with my wife.

With a movie like Raiders (which I haven't watched the commentary for...), it's a great film, but it's also so over-the-top that it's easy to laugh along with. A lot of Casino Royale was serious stuff - painful things happening to the main character, both physically and emotionally. The lighter or more straightforward action bits are fine, but the rest just seems like they would break the mood for riffing. It doesn't bother me, and if they pull it off, that's fine. It's just not a movie that I'd choose to do.

Out of all the rifftraxes done so far, the one I've been avoiding is Predator. I love the movie, I admit that in some parts you could get some great jokes, but MJ's review and the fact that Mike goes solo on this one made me question wheter I should watch or not.
I'd like to see what Mike Nelson has done, but I don't want the riffing to mess up my future viewings.
