Continuing the music theme here... On a lazy country drive, Paul McCartney's aces. From his Beatles (Blackbird) to the solo work (Jenny Wren) Paul's good for a Sunday drive. For a flat out ass kicking freeway drive. A Simpson's episode confirmed what we all suspected. Golden Earring's "Radar Love" is the greatest driving song ever! A great open road driving song should have a great catchy lead guitar riff. And years later, arising from obscurity, Golden Earring did it again. Giving us another reason to drive fast; with the song - "Twilight Zone" My other favorite driving song is Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog" - Again, that lead guitar hook is killer! Walking is a different matter. Even a great album doesn't always work as a walking album. What I've enjoyed are the Ramones and a band no one has probably heard (well maybe hopesfall has) The Ettes! In fact I enjoy this album while out for a walk over just listening to it while hanging around at home. But the absolute king of walking with headphones blasting... Bar none. Jimi was made for walking. Any CD will do, but try his debut your first time out. There's nothing like greeting the fresh, spring air accompanied by the strains of "Purple Haze" - "'scuse me while I kiss the sky" indeed! That's mine, what are your favorite CDs or songs to listen to while out on a drive or walk?

Cake's song "Never There" is my favorite walking fast song. It makes me feel bad ass. Outta my way, tourists.

Any album by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes seems to be great driving music. Other driving favorites are Billy Idol, AC/DC, and Turbonegro.

The Who, Live At Leeds. It adds about 10 horse power to whatever you're driving.

One song that comes to my mind is Billy Burnette's Into The Storm. To put into context, let me tell you a story. In 2003, I took a bus trip from my home in California all the way to Kansas City to see my best friend for the very first time face-to-face. It was the second day of the trip as we headed through Colorado north to Wyoming. There was a storm brewing, and Into The Storm happened to come on. The beautiful scenery, the stormy weather, the long trip and the song all coincided to make what was for me a magical moment. I realize it sounds corny now, but you just had to be there and know the circumstances that were going on. I also have to say that Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers' Learning To Fly is another one. It goes along the same personal lines that Into The Storm does.

Cake's song "Never There" is my favorite walking fast song. It makes me feel bad ass. Outta my way, tourists. I'll see your "Never There" and raise you a "Short Skirt/Long Jacket." That one's just made for walking down the street. In a leisure suit. Queen's "Another One Bites The Dust" is also a winner.

Speaking of Queen, Fat Bottom Girls. Always makes a drive so much fun. Every time I play that song I always yell out to my wife here I dedicate this song to you. Then I get a shoe thrown at my head.

Hard bop, as opposed to sleepy, by-the-numbers jazz, like Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers is good for a brisk walk. Even the electric, post-psychedelic "fusion" jazz is good like early-mid 70s Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

I usually just listen to whatever's in my CD player, which is generally a volume of my Top 350 Favorite Songs list. However, I have devised a mix CD that utilizes songs from my list in a neat little compilation of travel-themed music for long trips...
AC/DC, “Highway to Hell” Sammy Hagar, “I Can’t Drive 55” War, “Low Rider” Bad Company, “Movin’ On” Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, “Turn the Page” Billy Joel, “I’m Movin’ Out” The Beatles, “Drive My Car” The Jimi Hendrix Experience, “Crosstown Traffic” The Eagles, “Life in the Fast Lane” The Allman Brothers Band, “Midnight Rider” Creedence Clearwater Revival, “Travelin’ Band” Van Halen, “Panama” Foghat, “Slow Ride” Golden Earring, “Radar Love” The Rolling Stones, “Start Me Up” Bruce Springsteen, “Pink Cadillac” Eddy Grant, “Electric Avenue”
