I'm going to nominate a song by an artist I've defended here many times.
"Say You, Say Me" by Lionel Richie.
I love Lionel, and I think he gets way more ridicule than he deserves. But this one is one of the worst songs ever.
1- The lyrics are bottom-of-the-barrel lame. "I had a dream, I had an awesome dream. People in the park, playing games in the dark." Right.
2- It was a song from a ballet movie. That's right. A ballet movie.
3- It won an Oscar. That's right. An Oscar.
4- It has the worst bridge of all time in any recorded song ever. Of all time. Ever. The tempo changes, the instrumentation changes, and the lyrics are a completely different theme. It's like when those clips from "Mole People" showed up in the middle of "Batwoman". Just terrible.
All that being said, I still like it. In fact, I think I'm going to listen to it now, in the full knowledge that it sucks on toast.

Tatu's I'm Not Your First. ARGH. It's like listening to a playgroup trying to bash out a quick single for a quick buck.

I like this one. His follow-up, "Big Beat", kicks harder. There are a lot of monotonous tunes that, for some reason, became ironic #1 hits, but there's a new one on the radio that is like a cross between original Nintendo video game music and "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" with a highly annoying British guy going off on classic rock bands. I hate that one.

I don't listen to any new pop stuff, so I've managed to avoid stuff like Justin Timberlake and what not. Most of the songs that make me want to kill somebody are classic rock songs, because that's the radio station that's always on at work, and that's the one my neighbor is always blasting on weekends. Oddly, I used to like a lot of classic rock -- my dad was really into it, and I didn't mind most of it. I still like The Doors and Pink Floyd and stuff, but now I've developed a really fiery hatred for Lynyrd Skynyrd (SWEET HOME ALABAMA!!! MAKE IT F&*^%ING STOP!!!) and Aerosmith, particularly the pedophilic "Rag Doll." Icky. Oh, and I hate "Stroke Me" too.

Ridin' Dirty - Don't know the artist, don't care.
Ain't No Holla Back Girl - ditto.
Der Fuhrer's Face - Don't know
Spice Girls Songs - Any of them.
Backstreet Boys songs - ditto
98 Degrees songs - again, ditto
(my sister was into all this crap while she was growing up, and it was inescapable on the radio)
Emperor Cupcake, I'm going to have to disagree with you on something. I like Sweet Home Alabama. Maybe it's just a redneck thing. I agree it's over-played, but it's a pretty good song. I especially like the retort to Neil Young's "Southern Man"
Hmm... what else... I think The Thong Song was mentioned already...
It Wasn't Me - Shaggy
Step In Time - Mary Poppins (I don't know why, this song always pissed me off)
Reba MacIntyre (not sure on the spelling) - her pseudo-lisp thing she has going on irritates me. When she sings, it sounds like half her face is paralyzed.
I Had the Time of My Life- This song is linked to my traumatic childhood. My mother watched Dirty Dancing at least once every other day while I was young. She stayed home while she had my sister, and wasn't into soap operas any more. So it was that, Pretty in Pink (the whole soundtrack makes me want to kill someone), and the only movie that I really liked, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (what do you want, I liked the songs. I was three years old for Heaven's sake.)

Gaw, "Rag Doll" is nausea inducing, espcially with those thoroughly dessicated old druggie men singing it. This is the same guy who cast his DAUGHTER in a music video where she and Alicia Silverstone compete in a STRIPPING CONTEST to make money for their road trip. BLAGH BLAGH BLAGH!!!!

I especially like the retort to Neil Young's "Southern Man" Okay, I can dig that. But you have to understand that I was born and raised in Daytona Beach, Florida, home of NASCAR -- the Redneck Riviera, if you will. So anything that smacks of redneckery or down-hominess just makes me want to off myself. It's a knee-jerk reaction thing. And really I think I hate "Free Bird" more than "Sweet Home Alabama." It's a close call, though.
