Been listening to a fair amount of Bob Mould's work lately. He's so good all around, but this one really takes me back to college. If you haven't, also check out he and Dave Grohl performing Husker Du's Ice Cold Ice at a tribute for Mould a few years back. Guy can still bring it - what a voice.
I know Grohl is kind of overexposed these days, but the show here is clearly Mould. Great stuff.

i've been in a real '90's alternative rock mood lately...it has been way too long since i've last listened to any jane's addiction.

Just finished listening to/making mp3s of Johnny Cash's San Quentin album, because I'm leaving for Nashville tomorrow!

First day of autumn. Let's get this sh/t going. Wow, there's a trip back down memory lane. Nice! I have a buddy who hung on to so many of his old punk/metal/hard core cassettes and vinyl for many years. He met a new friend - considerably younger than him - who was into Danzig and encouraged him to listen to the Misfits and Samhain. He did this by loaning him his original cassettes of Initium and November Coming Fire, as well as some Misfits cassettes. I could have sworn he had Unholy Passion on cassette but I can't remember if they released it on that format. Anyway, his friend said he would return them in a week or so. Since my buddy lived alone and wasn't home much, the guy who borrowed the tapes said he would leave them on his front porch if he wasn't home - under the hood of the grill. My buddy said, specifically - "No, don't do that. Just hang on to them until you can get them to me." The guy apparently did not listen, and my buddy went out a few nights later to fire up his grill, and before he knew it a thick fog of black smoke had engulfed the porch. Torched the lot of them. There was much cursing that night, and it ruined his grill to top it off. I picked up some replacements for him on eBay (not exactly cheap, if I do say so) for Christmas, but couldn't find all the ones he lost. Sucked. Though I must say, I'm not sure you've lived until you've given Samhain music for Christmas. Still, takes me back. Nice post, HMA

I'm still kicking myself for selling all my original Samhain records. After collecting for 20+ yrs I've tried to adopt the attitude that I can always get anything again - nothing is irreplaceable. Which pretty much holds true, the only caveat being that a record I sold for $50 18 yrs ago is going to cost quite a bit more today. Sucks, but. It's just money. Thanks for sharing & for the kind words, Mod.

With terrible attacks still in Paris still fresh in memory, I had to spin a little Eagles of Death Metal. I haven't listened to these guys as much lately as I did a few years ago, But I fell right into the fun and rock of them. I love bands like this - party favorites, sleazy and don't take themselves too seriously.
First is a rocking little number from a few years ago:
Then there's this. They did a cover of Duran Duran's Save a Prayer a their most recent album, and a few weeks ago the lead singer and one of the guitarists got to perform the song with Duran Duran on television in the UK. There is now a movement to get this song (I believe the EODM studio version) to #1 on the charts in the UK. Duran Duran said they'd donate all the royalties they get from the sales to charity. EODM has understandably not commented on the effort yet.
I feel terrible for these guys, but at least they're still alive. So many of their fans that came that night are not. I can't imagine how heavy that weighs on them. Anyway, I was impressed with Jesse Hughes' singing on this. He really does nicely with them.
