Yeah..I know...Jeeze ANOTHER top albums thread?

Well I thought, why just let the guys have all the fun? So here's a music thread from a womens perspective. Will it have Liza or Babs listed? Have to check and see.

So I'm gonna list my top 50 albums of all time.

1.Queen- "A Night at the Opera": Ok...it would be blasphemous for me not to have one of my favorite bands on this list, especially since is my all time favorite album of theirs. Not ONE song on this album sucks (although Sunday Afternoon comes close ). THIS is how I like to think of Queen, with HUGE rock anthems that are as musical and elaborate as a Mozart symphony. I refuse to acknowledge their albums in the 80's when they went all soft and new wavy. Songs to be noted are; "Death on Two Legs" which is a perfect breakup song, "39" which is May's baby (and apparently is about space travel, I always thought it was about WWII lol)," In Love with my Car" (I always liked Rogers voice), and of course the incomparable "Bohemian Rhapsody:.



2.Heart - Dreamboat Annie: Back in the 70's , these sisters were once called "Americas answer to Zep". Great guitars, and who doesn't love Ann's voice??


3.Marilyn Manson: Mechanical Animal- Wow.... This album is a complete about-face from his dark/evil industrial rock persona.. Here Manson channels 70's Bowie and churns out a GREAT glam influenced rock album.. It's another album that I can't find one bad song to. I mean 'Coma White", "Rock is Dead", "Dope Show"...what's not to love?? *sighs* it really makes one miss Twiggy as the main guitarist too.


4.AC DC- Back in Black: With Bon Scott deceased, would the band survive? The answer in short...Hell Yes. AC DC is my fave band...and this is one of their best albums. If you have never heard this album..shame on you ...I mean, after all...Rock and Roll ain't noise pollution.



5. Rolling Stone: Hot Rocks-- Yeah, so it's a compilation album..so?? If you must have one album by the 'Stones, why not get one that covers all the bases?



6. The Eagles: Hotel California-- This album was on heavy rotation at my house when I was a child...Of course heading up this album is "Hotel California", which I always thought was about the horrors of drug abuse. My other two fave songs from this album is "New Kid in Town" and "Waisted Time". A great 70's album by a great 70's band.


7.Kiss : Alive! --What can I say? I'm a sucker for bigger than life rock groups.. I typically don't like over thinking my rock...Rock is supposed to be obnoxious and pointless.. (which is why I don't like MOST of the crap from the 80's and grunge bands from the 90's) Recorded in studio and at rock concerts this live album kicks @ss.. Having "Parasite" on an LP is reason enough to have this.



8. Metallica : The Black Album-- This should be on every metal-rock lovers list. Hard rocking with downright beautiful songs like "Unforgiven". Before the greed of the Napster days. *sighs*



9. Guns N Roses : Appetite for Destruction- See above for my reason for it's inclusion. When rock seemed to be heading down a road of cutesy hair bands with pink leather along came this group. As someone said on VH1's special about Metal , this band was the real deal who could wrap Poison around their little finger. Yeah...Axls a prick...but he had a great voice... and at least 90 percent of the band went on to form Velvet Revolver. Oddly enough.. I am meh about Use your Illusion.



10. Creedence Clearwater Revival Willy and the Poor Boys - I know most ppl like Bayou Country, or Green River...but this is my fave CCR album.

Hooray! Another fun list. And it looks like a different selection from the other lists, which is always good.

I like the Heart inclusion, as well as CCR. I couldn't decide on a CCR album, because they were all so short. And the beauty of CCR is their entire catalog.

But a couple of these will show up on my list, too.

It would take me a long time to think of my favorite 50 albums. I might do it one day, but right now, I get tired thinking about it.

You know something, though? I thought it interesting that you said you were doing a music thread from a "women's perspective." I wonder are women more likely to like female recording artists? I wonder this because I think all of my favorite bands are pretty much exclusively male. I can't even think of that many female vocalists I like that much (there are a few, but really less than a handful). Hmmm.

Anyway, just thought I'd put that out there.

That's a good question. The majority of artists I enjoy are male, but I do like a few female ones. After this next batch of albums Im gonna post, I'm going to devote the next batch to women artists albums I like.

Some more! Also it should be noted that I hate art rock/ new wave...so sorry ppl who were in your teens/twenties during the 80's...



11. ABBA -Gold : Ok...okay.....let's get those snickers and giggles out right now. We all know YOU like this cheesy collection too! Ultra-poppy and so sweet it will give you cavities if you listen to it at length. Angelic vocals with synth funk. Welcome to 70's disco.



12.. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Californication : Good lord, I played this cd OUT when it first came out when I was in high school. I know some people think "Blood , Sugar, Sex , Magik" is their best, but I have to digress and say THIS is their best album in the 90's. I adore this album from beginning to end. My fave song on this album? 'Scar Tissue', great lyrics and great guitar solo..



13..Billy Joel- The Stranger: This is considered his 'breakthrough' album , as it were. I get a LOT of flack around where I live for liking Billy Joel, much less this album. I can't help it, what can I say? The man makes good melodies and is a hell of a "piano man". A short little album that packs a LOT of melodic punch.



14.. Madonna- The Immaculate Collection: I LOVE early Madonna..before her voice got all deep and Cher-like. (not that there's anything wrong with Cher!) . The problem with Madonnas albums though is that there is maybe 2 good songs per entire album. This is why I picked this compilation of her best songs.



15. NIN- Broken : I love Trent...mmmmm Trent....ahem..anyways. I love this album because of it's shortness , and also because of its industrial rock experimentation. I consider this better than even Downward Spiral . *ducks* Fave song on this album? Gave Up.

Yay, more lists! I need to add more Queen to my list, my problem is most of them are LPs and my needle broke years ago. I'm having a hard time remembering which ones I liked (That I haven't coverted yet to CD)

Did you get the double disc for Opera? With the videos and commentary? I trhink the "Game" was the last excellent album. After that huge hit, it went right down the crapper immediately with Hot Space (Gaaaa, how I hated that album)

I HATED Hot Space too...bleck...


Anyways, yeah I have the double disks. ;D I REALLY want that HUGE box set that was released of their work a few years ago.

Here's some 'girl powered'' albums for you all.

16. Linda Ronstadt: Heart Like a Wheel- Beautiful album with an equally beautiful woman with an even more equally beautiful voice. As Mike Myers on Coffee Talk would say "Like buddah". Little bit country, AND a little bit rock and roll...sans cheesy smiles!



17. Joan Jett: I Love Rock and Roll-- The title says it all... Punkish but with a decididly metal attitude. However, while everyone loves the obvious single to the album, MY personal fave song of it is "Crimson and Clover".




18. No Doubt : Return to Saturn-- I love this group, and I can't wait till Gwen gets off her high pop-horse and returns to her band roots. Everyone usually picks the ubiquitous "Tragic Kingdom" as their fave No Doubt record. This one holds a special place in my heart though as it introduced me to them. Simple Kindof Life is my fave song from here...so dreamy like...lol




19. The Judds- Greatest Hits: Self explanitory.. I always loved their combined voices. Great country album.. Enough said.



20. Biff Naked: I Bifficus- I adore Bif Naked. She has one of the most unique female voices in rock out there now.Amazing album, great rock, great voice... Lucky Ones rocks... so pretty, and so dark.



21. Sheryl Crow: self titled- I know alot of ppl will give me flack about liking her...But those ppl can $#@@$ with a side order of $#*@. A great upbeat rocker, and at the end of the day she is a great guitar player. Great album from begining to end.

I liked this album a lot. Good tunes, cool Stones-like guitar riffs.

The album she did after this was a good one, too, IMO.

The first Hot Hocks compilation was amazing. Pretty much all the early hits.

I enjoy the second Hots Rocks, too, although the songs are a bit more obscure. (Anybody else notice the spectacularly wrong note Keith Richards hits near the end of "Sitting On A Fence"? Not sure if he was taking the piss or just couldn't be bothered to fix it. LOL)

I liked Sherryl too, so you''ll receive no slamming from me. I saw her live with Stevie Nicks, great concert.

And I'm planning on adding Jett to my list as well sometime.

I should also add that there is not going to be any Beatles and Zep albums listed because all my faves have already been listed on previous lists.

Hey I listened to Bif Naked, it was very good. I'll have to delve deeper, but I liked what I've heard so far. I dig making new musical discoveries. Thanks!
