I thought I'd ask around, see if anyone can help me.
I love Ska music whenever I can hear it. Trouble is, I can't ever really *find* Ska music when I go to buy albums from stores (they're normally hidden in the rock section), and radio people are notoriously bad in my area about not letting me know the names of bands.
So, does anyone have any suggestions for good Ska music?

I'm not a huge ska fan, but I like good groove and a horn section.
Some ska stuff I've liked over the years-
"The Reality of My Surroundings" by Fishbone. About half of the album is nothing short of amazing. The other half is maddening and disjointed. Check it out on iTunes and get the good songs.
Fishbone also did an EP of Christmas-themed songs, including the brilliant "It's A Wonderful Life" and "Slick Nick, You Devil You". If you can find it, you'll love it. (after a quick search, "It's a Wonderful Life" is on "The Essential Fishbone" compilation on iTunes).
I also enjoyed Five Iron Frenzy. Their stuff isn't too hard to find. They started here in Denver, and their stuff is really fun and loose. They were featured on an episode of Boston Legal.

Well this depends on what you consider ska. Sometimes I get a very hard time from people that want to say, "HEY THAT'S NOT SKA! THAT'S THIRD WAVE SKA! GOD!"
But I'm big on the Aquabats, Mustard Plug, No Name Charlies (saw 'em in Cleveland a few years ago), Reel Big Fish, Voo Doo Glow Skulls (Some of their stuff isn't that great, but I really really love their songs "Shoot the Moon" and "Band Geek Mafia." You can do the hand jive to Band Geek Mafia!)
I don't really listen to 1960's original ska, but I have heard the Skatelites and the Wailers.

I forgot about Five Iron Frenzy!
What's that one song where they talk about kamakazees? "I'm goin' in 1-2-3 like a kamakazee... 3-2-1 I'm goin' in!"
Then there's one song that goes "Rhubarb Pie, in the summer! Rhubarb pie made by my mother." I think that one is actually named "Rhubarb Pie" though.
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes also did this kick ass cover of the ghostbusters theme, I think it was ska sounding. I just remember I loooooved it.

I like The Specials for older ska, and The Slackers for newer stuff. Operation Ivy, if you want to call them ska (I guess I would). That's about it for me.

Not only do Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have the best band name in a long time, they are a lot of fun. Since they only do covers, it's hit or miss. But when they hit, it's great. I really like their "Take a Break" album, which is mostly R & B covers (like Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, R. Kelly, Prince, Whitney Houston, etc.) The songs are really fun done their way. Of course, they're not really ska. They're more like the wanna-be punk of Blink 182 or Green Day. They're just fun instead of whiny.

HEY THAT'S NOT SKA! THAT'S THIRD WAVE SKA! GOD!" haha. yeah, don't take it personally. Ska/reggae, punk and jazz and the big three genres hardcore fans notoriously get really touchy about. I consider myself a person who has done his homework and who is relatively well-rounded musically for my age, and even I get you-just-insulted-my-mother looks if I ever bring up a band or song that isn't "authentic". Anyhow, anyone who wants to get into 60s ska should check out this... It was reissued (bootlegged?) recently, but I can upload it if anyone is interested

Less about the crap and more about the having fun. The band lineage is crazy. Spike (singer) is in Swinging Utters, Jake(guitar player) and Dave (drummer) are in Lagwagon, Chris Shiflett aka Jake Jackson (guitar player) is in Foo Fighters, and Fat Mike (bass) is in NOFX. Brian Baker of Minor Threat and Bad Religion has filled in periodically for Jake. That's pretty good credentials. Fishbone, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and The Toasters are favorites. Hmm. I also like Madness, The Skatelites, Save Ferris, Sublime, Reel Big Fish, Operation Ivy, etc.
