Weezer. The Blue Album and Pinkerton were two of the best modern rock albums of the 1990s, no question about it. They went away, then they came back in 2000 and made a throwaway pop album, a schizophrenic pop-metal meltdown, and an acceptable but still cringeworthy album of eerily positive, toothless pop-rock. Please come back, Rivers. The OLD Rivers.
I'm going to have to disagree with both Dave Matthews and Radiohead. Dave just released a new single ("Eh Hee") that is simply phenomenal and I can't stop listening to it. I'm not even a big DMB fan. And the demos for Radiohead's upcoming album are simply phenomenal. Their best work, in my opinion. Kid A and even Amnesiac are just as good as their early stuff in my eyes, too.

There are parts of Kid A, Amnesiac, and especially Hail To the Thief that I enjoy. But as complete albums, they just don't compare with OK Computer or The Bends. There aren't as many good songs, and they seem to be too enamored with the sequencing and digital noise. However, I'm still really looking forward to their next album.

The only band I think that never really evolved in their sound and I love are AC/DC. And in all honesty I hope they never do (if they ever get round to making another album!). I love AC/DC too. They are working on a new CD due out In Jan. 2008.

The Royal Guardsmen. You know, those guys that recorded those Snoopy tracks. I'm sorry, but Snoopy vs Obama? *retches*

There was a tribute magazine that came out about a year ago over here and they claimed that they were working on one then. If that's true that's a long damn time!

Thinking back to when I was into music...
Talking Heads. They could change the direction, even change band members, but every album was a real gem, IMHO.

I know we have loads of XTC fans in the ranks , just by all the refernces.
if you know their whole "arc" , you should agree that they are nearly up there w/ The Fab Four as able to constantly evolve , yet not be swamped by whatever they've decided to incorporate with a new release.
They've always been xTc !
From a thrashy start , thru many levels of maturity.
Oh wait , I just saw the thread title again. I like `em any "day" of the week , but I guess the thread was accommodating that sort of perspective too.

Two words: Mariah Carey. I actually liked her as recently as the late 90s. But seriously... what's happened to her? Have any of you seen that commercial for her new perfume where the camera gets an extreme close-up of her cleavage as she sprays some in between her (exposed) boobs? WTF? Also? This doesn't really qualify as "back in the day", but I have to throw The Killers' name out there because their first album, 'Hot Fuss', was (mostly) awesome. It's truly astounding how quickly they've become weird, Springsteen wannabes who take seem to themselves waaaay too seriously. And all of the great artists from the '70s and '80s whose songs have been ruined through licensing and too many commercials (The Cars, Squeeze, ELO, the Who and so many more). Song s? Squeeze had other songs besides "Tempted"? No amount of overuse in car commercials will make me love ELO or The Who any less. The Rolling Stones haven't made a relevant studio album in ages. They've become a geriatric "greatest hits" machine. Of course, you can't stay 19 forever. I've only heard a few songs from 'A Bigger Bang' but I think "Streets of Love" is fantastic. ...And Oasis. Again there was a time where they meant so much... This one, I have to agree with. I think they're working on a new album. But I'd be amazed if it's on the level of their first two.

I have weird one. Anthrax, but Bush-era Anthrax. I know the classics came from Bellafonte, but I was never a fan of his voice. And they got so insanely heavy with John, who I think has one of the best voices ever.

Oh good ! yeah , there ought to be a "sarcasm emoticon" that's devoted solely to a sly winky . . .or sumpin'. I just about peeled off a list last night , so many fine tunes , right up thru "Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti" I'm not a huge Squeeze booster ( or Boost squeezer ! ) , they're not quite in the same league as XTC / Talking Heads / etc. But they've come up w/ dozens of delights ! goodbye girl !
