You ever revisit an old favorite with anticipation.... only to discover that it has lost its luster?
It's a bummer and has happened twice recently. Due to the top 200 list I wrote up, I went back and listened to a lot of those golden oldies.
Two that didn't hold up: Superiunknown by Soundgarden.
I know that's weird. It still has some great tracks, but the album starts to fall apart at the end. I was skipping songs left and right and that's a bummer, because I used to love this thing. Hell, as it stands now I'd take it off the top 200 list because I was getting a little bored with it.
But a bigger shock was Tori Amos's "Under the Pink" - I adored this album. When I first bought it I played it non stop for weeks.
But after giving it another go this past week, I was disappointed. It lacked the same energy and spark. "What happened!" I cried. I still liked the album, it would probably stay on the top 200 but at a lower ranking. But damn it, this sucks.
Is it my ears, my age, my state of mind?
This ever happen to you and if so, what albums haven't aged well?

Pretty much every Stevie Nicks album. A lot of it has to do with how she is now (kind of a bitch when it comes to Fleetwood Mac/Lindsey Buckingham) but a lot of it too is just my taste in music has changed over the past 10 or so years. There are still songs of hers I love, but for the most part it's hit or miss.

Just about anything I listened to about ten years ago. I was at school while the whole Britpop thing was happening with Oasis and the like. I now pretty much dislike it all as plodding indie music with no soul. My taste has changed so much since then. I now listen to just about every type of music imaginable. Funnily enough the one Britpop band I do like is Blur, yet I hated them in the day.

I think I've owned "Storm Front" by Billy Joel at least 3 different times. The girl I was dating when it came out was a huge Billy Joel fan, and I have a lot of good memories of the songs.
But every time I go back to it, I'm disappointed to discover that it's still a Billy Joel album.

MJ, my roommate and I are offended.
Not really. Soundgarden is one of my favourites and Tori is his reason for living.
A funny one, but I always thought Silverchair's Neon Ballroom was great until I went to listen to it again a couple years ago, and it was poop and I haven't listened to it since. That's the only one I can think of at the moment.

i think it just doesnt mean anythnig to me anymore.

Yeah, what's up with Silverchair's new stuff?
I think their only good album was Frogstomp. I like almost every song on that album. But everything else leaves much to be desired.

That happens alot. Something that meant something at some point then when you go back to it you can't see the appeal because you've moved on. All the music I listened to in school and in the years I took out before uni is now pretty much dead to me, apart from a couple of truly special albums and artists, such as the Flaming Lips etc. I wonder what stuff i listen to now will go the same way in later life. Probably the Old Skool Jungle stuff, whereas I'll still love Tom Waits. but then it may be the other way round. Who knows.

I liked freakshow too, but frogstomp was the best in my opinion. I had neon ballroom and listened to it all of 2 months... then that was really about it. I miss their harder sound.
