Record companies have a long history of stealing from the R&B and blues artists that they "represented." So they do it to.

I stole Crass' "Christ the Album" in high school. They wouldn't care anyway. I also download most of my music. If I like the band, I'll buy a shirt from them and go to one of their shows. Or If I can, I'll buy an album directly from the band, cause those are the only ways they're gonna make money off their music. That's how it is with the bands I listen to anyway. I'm sure all those bigger bands make plenty of money off record sales.

Stealing music from big bands doesn't bother me at all.
You know who I'm talking about, HUGE bands like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and whatnot. I mean come on, do they really need to charge their own fans hundreds of dollars for mediocre stadium seating at a concert? They have it coming all along. They're set for life, they don't need to do that!
But smaller bands that actually need the money to live off of is a different story. I know I would feel pretty awful if I ever stole that stuff!

I had a friend who worked at Hastings, so when I went there I would make sure to go through his line and get an 80% discount. Is that considered stealing?

Many details have been coming out lately on the large number of songs they straight STOLE from other artists. Even "Stairway". As for the rest of you, I believe by law, you can make a copy of a copyrighted work for your own use, IF you bought the original. But I'm no lawyer.

To be honest I know nothing of Led Zeppelin. I probably couldn't have answered which band/group made that song. Ha, and I consider to be a music buff... kinda embarassing. I've never cared to listen to them. They have a cool logo though.

On The Stern Show they've had a guest come in and play songs from bands we've never heard from, then the Led Zep version, which they had credited to themselves. But it so clear they ripped off other people's songs.

I've never actually stolen anything physical. I'm too honest. I suppose that buying my used CDs for less than their original price at an independent music store could be considered "stealing", since it's all going back into the store. I do some small time downloading on a sharing site that masquerades as a remixing site (For anybody curious to know, it's Jamglue. Just watch out for the cheap YouTube audio rips!). I also use RapidShare search engines.
