I'd love to order it, can't afford it this close to Xmas. Fingers crossed the extra tracks are made available in some smaller release or download from the band. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioyqmeVszis;) Nice little clip. Always nice to hear Thom talking and a little insight into the motivations of this release. He's so right. When I was growing up Paisley had five record stores, two chains, three indie. One indie's all that's left and it's really small so most of the space is taken up by mainstream stuff. It's great for getting older back catalogue's but obscure new stuff is pretty hard to find. Amazingly Glasgow for all it's size isn't much better as most of the stores are chains that drove the indie's out. Avalanche is probably the only good record shop left but it's really dear thanks to having to import everything because alot of the good stuff, say the Kranky label's output, doesn't get British distribution so London's pretty much the only place to get stuff like that. I buy most albums online now, though i'm still a bit dubious about downloading as I like to have the actual album with it's artwork and whatnot. Hopefully In Rainbows will appear to buy outwith the big boxset with the extra disc because I'd happily pay again to get the actual thing. Who knows but Thom is spot on about the reasons so many people illegally download music. It's not strictly about getting it for free, it's been revealed the vast majority of people have paid £5 for In Rainbows even though they didn't need to, it's about availability. The only way to get alot of obscure stuff is to turn to the net. Granted if someone's downloading the new Kayne West album illegally then it is about getting it for free.

Email's out with details of the download:
THANK YOU FOR ORDERING IN RAINBOWS. THIS IS AN UPDATE.
YOUR UNIQUE ACTIVATION CODE(S) WILL BE SENT OUT TOMORROW MORNING (UK TIME). THIS WILL TAKE YOU STRAIGHT TO THE DOWNLOAD AREA.
HERE IS SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOWNLOAD:
THE ALBUM WILL COME AS A 48.4MB ZIP FILE CONTAINING 10 X 160KBPS DRM FREE MP3s.
MOST COMPUTERS NOW HAVE ZIP SOFTWARE AS PART OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM; IF YOUR COMPUTER DOES NOT, YOU NEED TO GET WINZIP OR ZIPIT INSTALLED PRIOR.
Nice and vague about what time they come out, tomorrow morning (UK time)! Means I need to get up early and hope it doesn't come out at 11:59 AM. Since it's already 3:30 AM there's the temptation just to stay up til it comes out!

Those wacky Brits and their GMTs. Well I am looking forward to downloading this. I bought it partly because I'm interested to hear their new work, and partly to support the non-label release.

...mmmm. Very well put together. listening over and over, getting more out of it the more I hear it. Throw back to the older and mixed in with the newer and containing even a newer sound....back to it.

I like what I've heard so far. I enjoy the so-called "lush" sound of it better than their older, more straightforward rock material, but I'll have to listen a few more times to give my final word.
Also, some of it, especially the first couple tracks sound a lot like Thom Yorke meets the Flaming Lips.

Listened a few times now. Good stuff. Stripped back sound with some interesting noodling going on in the background. I like how they've toned down the electronic stuff, although like Hail To The Thief it starts under false pretenses as that started with a stripped down rock number before all the electronics while this is vice versa. It isn't a step back though. Thom Yorke's solo album The Eraser from last year had more memorable tunes, but the layers of electronic sound were off putting for most of my mates. I think they'll enjoy In Rainbows in a way that they haven't enjoyed Radiohead since OK Computer.

Well, I like it a lot overall. It seems more low key but also more consistent than OK Computer (the most recent album I have by the group). After my thread about that album a few months ago, I became much more familiar with the album and concluded that 5 or 6 of the songs were all-time classics, but the rest ranged from poor to pretty good. While In Rainbows doesn't try to be groundbreaking, and doesn't have anything to match the best material from OK Computer (at least as I hear the songs right now), I'm enjoying it better as an album to listen all the way through. It has a pretty consistent sound, where a lot of the songs are fairly mellow and soothing (at least arrangement-wise). Also of note, I've listened to it half a dozen times and have yet to understand more than a sentence or two of the lyrics. Word identification is not my strong suit.
Definitely a worthy purchase. The only other album I have of the group is The Bends, which still hasn't quite made it with me. This one makes me want to hear some of their more recent works.

Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Theif, plus Thom Yorke's album The Eraser are worth hearing. Very experimental and heavy on the electronics. Their debut Pablo Honey from before The Bends is a poor one though. it's got Creep on it mind you.

Kid A yes. Groundbreaking for the group and has the song How To Disappear Completely. Magestic. Also Idiotech, first I heard that it was on repeat for like hours. Amnesiac for You And Whos Army and Pyramid Song. Hail to the Theif for Myxamatosis damn do I get down to that one and also Go To Sleep. Plus a lot of other songs on those albums are great...Sit Down Stand Up...but I could go on.
This album is making me crave more. Can't wait till Dec. What a knock out they did this time. UGH at the end of Reckoner. I mean the whole song but that end ..oooooooh ahhhhhhhh.

Look forward to hearing the new stuff. "The Bends" and "OK Computer" are amazing.
They broadcast a repeat interview with Yorke on NPR the other day and played a bit of "No Surprises." Hadn't heard that for a while. Gorgeous song!

I could have sworn that I'd read that the songs would be at the lower bitrate well before the release date. And honestly, most people I've heard complaining about it are uber-audiophiles. For just listening to the songs on my computer via headphones, there's no intelligible difference to me listening to this quality of .mp3 files compared to the original cd.

I've listened to it on CD through my pretty damn good stereo and through earphones with my MP3 player and the sound quality's perfectly fine. It's just audio geeks moaning about something they can get for free if they so wish! They seriously need to get a grip!

Still sounds fantastic blasting through my car's speakers. G4 is all about hype. They've become the bastard child wannabe of Spike TV. Crap ...even though I watched Ninja Warrior on there a few hours ago hehe but really it's an all flair network full of crap and no substance....except maybe Ninja Warrior.
