Just wanted to create a thread appreciating the band that started progressive rock: "Yes". Post your favorite album, song, or band member here. And just.........discuss this band!!

No.
(I worked in a record store in the 70s, and have no tolerance for Yes. Or ELP or Star Castle for that matter.)

Fragile is a wonderful album. So is the Yes Album. I love playing "Roundabout" and "South Side of the Sky".

There's no doubt that they're great musicians. And so I say this with great appreciation and as a pretty doggone big prog rock fan:
A little Yes goes a long way.
Maybe it's that Jon Anderson's range is an aquired taste. Maybe it's Rick Wakeman's wall of keyboards. But after about 10 minutes, I'm ready for something else.
Which is too bad, because that rhythm section (in all of its incarnations) is almost untouchable.

I've been trying to get "Fragile" held for me at the library for a long time now. I'm too cheap to buy it, but I'd like to give it a listen.

You need to pony up the cash and go get the new remastered SACD edition. You will not be disappointed and will probably listen to it everyday. I know I do, lol. Servo

Outside of their better known works , I especially love so much of Anderson's "Olias of Sunhillow" There is nothing else I've heard with quite that production & etheral yet deep "sonic landscape" !

I've liked the songs I've heard from the album on Pandora radio, but as long as the library has it, I figure I might as well check it out for free first. At least that was my plan until they lost the cd, and then someone found it and checked it out even though it was on reserve for me.

I don't know how many drummers there are in here, but here's something else... www.drummingweb.com/prog.htmI've been at it casually for only a couple years now; still trying to get my coordination/rudiments down pat and trying to train myself to break out of the "standard rock/funk/soul beat" rut. I have been using this guy's practice suggestions as a guide. Turns out he's a Yes and King Crimson fan. These odd beats are really kicking my ass.

Am I the only one who loves "It Can Happen", "Roundabout", "Leave It" and "Close to the Edge" about equally? I am? Okay, then. Just checkin'. Carry on.
