I'm a huge nerd, so I'm going with the following:
Death Proof - A lot of obscure but good songs mixed in with traditional horror and action movie cues.
Team America: World Police - The songs can wear on you (but are hilarious), but the orchestral score sounds like it could go to a serious movie. Not only that, but it's a fun score, especially the main titles.

I'd love to give a shout out to John William's score for "Close Encounters" The music durring the climax with the mother ship is just awe-inspiring. Top notch.

I like The Searchers and Midnight Run and many others, but the one that stands above them all for me is The Third Man.
If you're talking about favorite soundtrack to listen to without the movie, then maybe O Brother Where Art Thou?.

Anyone want to exchange MP3's? I downloaded a lot of film scores from Napster years ago.
I can't begin to mention all my favorite composers. We seem to have had this thread a few years ago.

I'm no film buff, and I'm definitely no film score buff. So maybe I'm a little out of place here, but there are two scores that I dig. I like the Carnival of Souls score and the Vampyros Lesbos score. CoS is the one score that truly enhanced a movie for me. Usually I just dig pop songs and novelty songs, but CoS' score had more effect on me than any "soundtrack" ever has, it gave me goosebumps the first time I heard it. And the Vampyros Lesbos score is just cool whacked out psychedelic stuff that's fun to listen to. I didn't care for the movie, but the score is totally cool.

Stewart Copeland's wholly unique pastiche of percussion, brass, and tape loops for Rumble Fish. Good one ! Bought a cassette when it came out ( have since upgraded to CD ). There's 3 or 4 pieces from the "Westworld" soundtrack I've always loved, the "Chase from Westworld" variations in particular.

Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ. Very cool music.

Glory.
Often imitated*, but never duplicated.
And say what you will about Randy Newman and his one-note Disney shtick, but what he did in The Natural makes up for all of it.
*even Horner himself rips it off all the time, see also Braveheart-- totally ruined the movie for me.

I really did like the scores for the Lord of the Rings movies. They stand up with the best of all time, in my mind. Howard Shore really came out of nowhere with them, it seems to me. It seems like the first was the overall best and most consistent, with each of the following two becoming slightly less good overall but being even better during their best moments, if that makes any sense. Taken as a whole, it's a pretty staggering work, with so many themes woven together. They're just about the only film work that's really held my interest in this decade.

Glory. Often imitated*, but never duplicated. Amen to that. One of the most beautiful soundtracks ever.
