I just bought myself an Atlantics album, and I swear, I haven't been this excited over a new album in a looooong time!
Oh how I love surf music... my absolute favorite genre!!
Any other surf buffs here?

I like Dick Dale, too. Have y'all heard any of his more recent records? He's still got it.
The Ventures are one of my favorite bands. I have almost all of their albums, and they have a bunch (like over 40). Though they didn't stick to just surf-style, I've always thought of most of their music as an extension of surf.
So, yep, another surf fan here.

Yeah, I love the Ventures as well. I like Dick Dale too, but the Ventures just hit the spot for me. For some reason their Live In Japan record is my favorite.

The first surf song I remember listening to was (as I know now) a Venture's song. When I was a kid I remember my dad saying, "Krista, this song is called 'Walk Don't Run.'" I think the only reason I remember it so vividly from my childhood is because I thought the name was funny. I remember it coming on over the speakers at Red Lobster when I was a kid, and pointing it out to my dad, alerting him to the fact I liked that song.
So I guess I've been a surf fan since I was a wee one!

I've always thought "Walk-- Don't Run" was an odd title; wouldn't you want people to get excited by your music and do the more exciting thing, which would be to run? But then if you listen to the Chet Atkins recording by which The Ventures were inspired, you'll hear a much more mellow song. The Ventures really sped it up and made it cook. So it ended up with a sort of oxymoronic title once it became a hit.

Dick Dale now tours with his kid who plays the drums and sometimes rhythm guitar. Both of them put on a really good show. Billy Strange is good too. I only have one of his albums where he does versions of "In Like Flint", "Peter Gunn" and some James Bond stuff, but he has quite a few. As for new surf, the only bands which have caught my ear are Tremolo Beer Gut (from Denmark) and the Phantom Surfers (early-90s, they do movie covers as well, including "Ratfink's Theme" and "Gamera", both which are oft covered by West Coast bands).

Dick Dale now tours with his kid who plays the drums and sometimes rhythm guitar. Both of them put on a really good show. I saw Dick Dale years ago when his kid was three or four and he a had a little drum kit set up on the side of the stage and he would come out and "play along" with the band from time to time. Nice to hear he stayed with it and now is a real member of the band.

Dick Dale played a show near my area a couple of months back. I didn't go because I had other plans that day but I wish I did especially since tickets only cost 15 dollars.

I'd love to have a surf band that dressed in drag and sang songs about feudalism and Middle-Agey stuff. Our specialty would be serf rock and we would be known as Sir Frock!
Have I already used this joke on this board? I think so.

All joking aside, I really do think that's a cool idea!

Yeah, I like to fantasize that we'd tour with Dread Zeppelin.
