I had a roommate who listened to "Who Wants to Live Forever?" from the Highlander soundtrack and bawled like a baby.

Kinda' OT, but when I was little, warped 8-tracks used to make me cry.

I am guessing that Shep listens to The Church of Lazlo on 96.5 The Buzz. Am I correct? You are correct, sir! I do sometimes. I also listen to a lot of NPR during the day (I'm old). Walt Bodine, Steve Kraske, etc.

If I am in my car, 9 times out of 10 my radio is tuned to NPR (89.3).

I had a roommate who listened to "Who Wants to Live Forever?" from the Highlander soundtrack and bawled like a baby. That's hilarious. That song makes me laugh. That's unfortunate. It gets to me as well, it's an emotional song, the video especially pulls at my heart strings. when a visibly thin, very sick Freddie Mercury is belting it out. Along with Cash's Hurt, there's a poignancy there. Makes me sad to think that theirs someone laughing over this song.

As mentioned a couple of times before, the video for "Hurt" hits me hard.
But the one that makes me absolutely inconsolable is The Beatles' "Let It Be". It came on the radio right after I had heard that my dad, who was also my best friend, had died. It was one of his favorite songs, and it spoke to me.
Now, whenever I am driving home and am thinking about my father, which is often, it never fails to come on the radio. Ever. And every time I have to pull over because I can't see for the tears.
EDIT: I agree with MJ. The video for "Who Wants to Live Forever?" always brings a few pangs of sadness.

For me, "Who Wants to Live Forever?" just reminds me of Highlander, which is a silly film.
It's "The Show Must Go On" that makes me misty. Knowing it was the last song Freddy sang in the studio, that he could barely stand up when he recorded it, makes the lyrics and the performance especially powerful.
I performed at a funeral last month, and I sang a song called "Who Am I?" by a group called Casting Crowns that was nearly impossible to get through without choking up. I can't listen to it while driving.

Not to mention that is one of the most ripped off cliched lines EVER! Most people think it started with the US Marines during WWI, but Phantom actually coined the phrase when me and the other hunters had hesitated on jumping onto this mammoth we'd just rolled a huge rock on top of and was thrashing about pretty much. Phanty grabbed his Clovis point spear, assumed the power pose, fixed us with his eyes and asked us with his falsetto lisp if we "wanted to live forever?! Then he jumped down, missed the mammoth and fell in a huge puddle of.....well.....mud.

I once heard a random guy do an acapella "O Holy Night" at a tiny little crappy Christmas concert I was forced to go to. But this guy gets on stage and, crap, it was awesome.

For me, "Who Wants to Live Forever?" just reminds me of Highlander, which is a silly film. But,m the song brought some beauty to what was pretty silly. And that should be praised. Strongly agree. It's another that always moved me.

It's sad to say, but I think Queen is starting to sound pretty dated. Not to me, mind you, but to the rest of the world. Case in point: I teach a class where I ask the students to present on a contemporary piece of fantasy and/or science fiction. One of my students did Highlander, and when the Queen song kicked in, the entire class started laughing.

But I'm in a sad mood lately, so this thread is fast becoming a bummer to the Nth degree. Laughing at a beautiful song. That sucks, dumb students suck man!

That sucks, dumb students suck man! Sometimes that is, unfortunately, true. One of my best "dumb student" stories was back when I was teaching high school. I showed the Baz Luhrmann movie of Romeo + Juliet...so one day while we were discussing it, one kid asked, in all sincerity with no joke meant: "How did Shakespeare know that they would invent guns and cars one day?"

I get that way with Death Cab For Cutie. I have little-to-no tolerance for the "I'm a sad hipster" music. Tripe. But I don't want to upset MJ anymore, so I'll stop there. I don't cry as often as I used to, back when I was a teenager. I guess the hormones gave way to jaded stoicism. Still, I'll have to comb through the music collection and get back to you. I know there must be one or two that still do it.
