But the main question is...
Why are they doing it at ILM and why would they need permission from them to re-show the event?
In any event, this whole thing should blow "MST3K Ver. 2.0" out of the water as far as prospective press coverage goes.

Mike has already done three Star Wars rifftrax projects (to my knowledge). If I were Joel, I would avoid anything Star Wars, at least until the project got on its feet, to avoid people saying that I was trying to "copy Mike" or anything along those lines.
Joel Vs Mike: GO!!!!!!!!
That is all.

Well, yesterday Joel updated the Cinematic Titanic site with the following... The speculation is over. It MUST be "The Star Wars Holiday Special". No question about it now. Hey guys, I will never give anything away, but I hate to see the excitement that seems to be building up here based on the speculation that the movie will be the Star Wars Holiday special. It's not.

I have to say I'm disappointed that it isn't the Holiday Special, but at least maybe we've given the CT gang something to pitch to the Bearded One.

Guys, I never, ever mean to be tantalizing on threads like this, and prefer just to remain silent (hey, I get as excited about the prospects as anyone else on the board!) lest I say something that's misinterpreted and fuel further speculation way off the mark. So, I'll do just that and keep my mouth shut. The only reason I posted on this thread at all is because it seemed as if speculation for the Star Wars Holiday Special was ramping up and people were getting excited and it was seeming to many that the Holiday Special was a forgone conclusion. I just didn't want a lot of people disappointed. And, again, it isn't. Okay, going dark now...

I hope we don't seem ungrateful, RAD. I'm glad that you told us that it wouldn't be the Holiday Special. If you hadn't put the rumor down, it could be all over the Internet before the announcement hit and I'd hate to have people view the news with anything but happiness.
The Ewoks TV movies might fit, but they're on DVD already, so they're not rare. I'm adjusting mentally to the possibility that maybe the movie has nothing to do with Lucasfilms and he just happens to be a fan of Joel or MST3K.

I'm glad it isn't the SW Holiday Special. I'd much prefer a movie.

Not speculation, and maybe already mentioned, but the source of some the art on the site is the 1939 Worlds Fair time capsule. The instructions for the capsule, to be opened in 6939, can be found here: www.archive.org/details/timecapsulecups00westrichpretty interesting stuff.

It's making the anticipation so strong that by the time I see the first episode I could stare at quiet silhouettes for an hour and a half and enjoy myself. We're working ourselves into a frenzy over every word we can find about CT. We'll take hints, any hint at all. I'm actually physically shaking right now; no joke; because I know of a movie that is exceptionally rare, psychadelically strange, and of disturbingly poor quality. It's also a Christmas film (kinda), and Mary Jo and Rad happen to own a copy of it (thank you, Doc). Now I've got that tabletop song stuck in my head. I've gotta take a lap around the house and calm down again.

And I really think that this is possible. If it's not something Lucas-related, this seems to be the perfect movie, and it will be coming out during the Christmas season.

Honestly, for me it's like wondering what the first song the Beatles would have played had they reunited to play a concert.
I don't personally care what is first. I am just totally overjoyed it is happening and can't wait to see them in action again!

I'm hoping and praying for them to do a little unknown film called Nukie[/i]. I saw it a couple of years back thanks to a friend who had a collection of rare and bizzare movies. It was awful.
Worse then awful. Makes some of the stuff seen on MST3K seem like cinematic epics.
