I doubt he would just spill the beans like that.
I'm going to guess Zardoz isnt't the movie. It would be pointless to be so vague and mysterious, and then in an interview casually mention it.

So what's meant by "questionable quality"? "Offbeat" and "rare" I understand but when you get right down to it, some of my favorite movies can be described as "questionable quality".
My vote would be some kind of foreign monster movie like a japanese version of Frankenstein or Dr. Jekyl and Mr Hyde.

I know of this movie you speak of, and I'm still going to get even with Dr. Z for ever showing it to me. And I really think that this is possible. If it's not something Lucas-related, this seems to be the perfect movie, and it will be coming out during the Christmas season. My dad actually tried to watch it once. However, unlike those of us at Denver, he had the good sense to stop watching before it sucked his soul out of his body. There was no Deep Hurting for him.

Star Crash would be awesome. It's like a violent car wreck between Barbarella and Star Wars with David Hasselhoff at the wheel. I'm guessing the first movie will be something cheap to license and Star Crash is public domain, I think. So maybe they'll do it. There are still a few good public domain movies that are bad-funny and haven't played on MST3K or had Mike Nelson commentaries. I wouldn't expect a big epic failure like Zardoz (although I'd love to see them do that one) unless they have some kind of rights deal through a big corporation.
It will probably be something we haven't heard of. I'm sure it's fun finding these movies. I always loved seeing what crazy movie MST3K would dig up back when they were still making new episodes and they'd announce what was coming up in a new Season. Another one I hope they do is "The Wizard of Mars" (aka Horror of the Red Planet) which might also be public domain under one of its many titles. They could do a whole series on sci-fi movies inspired by The Wizard of Oz.

I remember one of the MST3K Review sites (Mighty Jack's? I'm not sure) had Speculated Seasons 11 and 12. Basically listing other "typical MST" films that may have had a chance to be riffed on, if the show had continued. For this Speculation Thread, I think they would be a good place to start. Could someone post a thread or link to them? I remember seeing The Norsemen (with Lee Majors and "Crenshaw") on the list. I later saw most of it on Showtime, and it indeed was a riffable prospect. Anyone know where I saw this?

He does mention Zardoz in the interview a lot... Yes. That's the movie that is being done with the Fleck group at ILM. NOT the CT movie.

Well, I for one am relieved then! I read the review of that at Agony Booth and I don't want to have to see it. Thanks for squelching another rumor/bit of speculation, RAD.

RAD, I don't want to ask you to reveal anything that shouldn't be revealed. But can you tell us whether or not the CT is going to be fall in the PG or PG-13 range (like Joel's years on MST), or tend toward the raunchier side, like the Sci-Fi years of MST and even more so with RiffTrax and Film Crew? I'd just like to know whether I'll be able to watch these with my daughters in the room or not!

I hope it tends to the cleaner side for a change. While I'm not prudish, it does seem like the current riffers often go further into the adult material than I would prefer.

While I don't personally mind Sci-Fi channel or Rifftrax or Film Crew riffs being dirtier, I do mind that I can't watch these with my younger sister thanks to the very un-discreet innuendos. That was one of the things about the Joel years. While Joel would sometimes shush the bots, you still knew what they were going to say so it was still funny.

When Rifftrax started, I expressed similar concerns over on the Rifftrax.com message board and was run out of town. I believe by the time it was over, my desire for family-friendly riffing was equated to Jerry Falwell, anti-free speech, and gay bashing. I may also have killed dogs and eaten babies. I'm not sure.
I wonder why I stopped posting there.
The point of that otherwise pointless anecdote is to say I agree with the previous posters and hope they keep CT from getting too blue.

Were you the guy who did those critiques of episodes based on the dirty riffing? I remember him being run out of town too, though I did appreciate those. Told me what was cool to watch with family and what was not.
