Ok is the DVD they mail out is just a DVDr I will probably just download it then. From what I read on the sites (them and their sister site, wagon), yes the DVD is just a burn they do themselves, although they do print the DVD label. I don't know if it's a sticker or they print to the disc. I wouldn't want it if it was a sticker--that's bad for the players. They ship it in a plain paper DVD slip, so no case or case art, either, although you can download that and DIY. I'm just going to go with the download, but I have cable internet, so speed shouldn't be an issue for me.

To me it sounded like it's burned or stamped onto the DVD itself, not a sticker.

If you have slow internet you could always set it up to download overnight.

Ok well all set up, downloaded one of the test ones, speed was great, simple to use. My only concern now is that it doesn't have a zone restriction on it, browsing through the website I see there are quite a few I wouldn't be allowed to buy due to my area, I just hope they don't forget that when releasing CT! *edit* This is what I am talking about.

OK... I broke out an old DVD burner from the closet. It has a USB port so I hooked it up to my computer. I downloaded EZTakes Download Manager and a free sample movie. Using their program I was able to make a perfect DVD with very little effort. Very easy! I'm going the download route myself.

I've changed my mind. Since the shipped DVD would just be a DVD-r w/o any kind of packaging or artwork or even label, I'll go the download route for this first endeavor. I wonder, will there be a different price for downloading versus shipping a dvd-r?
Also, I've downloaded their software and have started a test download. Looks good so far.

Seems a fairly standard 3 dollar charge on everything to get it mailed out.

This does look a tad worrying! There's a little link on the page that says "Available in the United Kingdom" whenever I go into any genre. Clicking that keeps it on. Fingers crossed CinTit remembers the Misties Worldwide! Downloaded the manager, took about 2 minutes. Pipe Dreams took less than 5 minutes to download. Edit: Tried just playing it with VLC and there was no sound. WinDVD had no picture. Media Player worked fine though. Don't know if that's maybe a problem with codexs or something, not the greatest with computers! Also can't burn it. Keeps saying I need to put in a blank disc when one's in. Tried both drives. That might be a problem with my computer though.

Hmmm... Not sure I like the idea of not getting a professionally stamped DVD.
What I may do for this first release is download AND order a DVD. I can be the guinea pig and report back my findings, I guess. Normally I would balk at paying for the same thing twice, but I just need to see it for myself.

Okay. For the scared or wary downloader, here's my information. I hate downloading stuff. I don't even download my computer updates like I should. But, this morning I went to EZtakes to at least give it a try. First, my setup: I have a HP Pavilion Slimline PC with a burner. About 1.5 gig, and I have DSL internet service. They have three free movies enabling you to try their service. I selected the middle one (Pipe Dreams, 58.97MB), an animated musical short as I figured it would take the least amount of time. First, I had to download the EZtakes download manager, which basically facilitates the download and makes it available to burn once you have downloaded. Necessary equipment in other words. That took about twenty minutes to download the application. Next up was the movie itself which automatically began downloading once the application was running. That took a full forty minutes to download. I took it out, popped it in my regular DVD player hooked up to my TV and presto, there it was. Very skimpy menu and graphics. Just a lame, cheap looking title and something that said Press Play to Begin or something like that. (I don't have it on at the moment and my memory fails me.) Press Play, and it begins. No hiccups or anything, although the picture quality seemed a little grainy and artifacts were visible especially during fast motions (if you've seen any DAP MSTs you know what I mean). The biggest disappointment for me though, was that for my 1 hr download time investment, I got back three and a half minutes in DVD length. Granted, as I said, twenty minutes were spent downloading the application. But 40 minutes for 3:30 minutes seems pretty long. I can't imagine downloading a feature length film. I'd be interested to see what one of their DVD burns looks like, if it's any better than this. Anyway, that's my report to you. Hopefully this gives you some good information in determing what you want to do! I downloaded the same thing today, but it seemed like it only took a few minutes. I download at around 5000 kbps though. I'm hoping the somewhat ragged edge-ness of the detail on that animation was due to it being merely a sample. I liked that Animusic so much I went to their website and purchased 2 copies each of both their DVDs, one for a Christmas gift and one for me LOL.

If you have slow internet you could always set it up to download overnight. is 3kbps too slow for something like this? You have dial-up don't you? I can't imagine it working that well unless you can let it download continuously for a day or more (I've done that in the past).

If you have slow internet you could always set it up to download overnight. is 3kbps too slow for something like this? Might take awhile. I believe the download manager has a resume function so that if your DL gets interrupted you can pick it up from where you left off. What I may do for this first release is download AND order a DVD. I can be the guinea pig and report back my findings, I guess. Normally I would balk at paying for the same thing twice, but I just need to see it for myself. I wouldn't. It says right in the FAQ for DVD Wagon (the site that sells the physical DVDS) that they are DVD-R.

Yep. It was as high as 5kbps at one point, but the computer has been moved farther from the phone jack, so the rate got slower. I've tried the all-night thing before. Unfortunately, if I don't do anything on the internet for two hours, even as little as clicking some random link, the connection will end. Irrigardless of what my connection settings actually are.

Got the DVD to burn, it was my fault that it didn't work. DVD was fine, quality not the greatest but that may be in part thanks to it being a demo and an older piece of animation. Pipe Dreams is really cool though, going to keep that!
