We're starting to get a little off-topic, but I don't care---as someone else said, I liked SciFi MST3K, but I liked earlier CC MST3K better. Also, there are some SciFi era eps that I won't watch again, specifically because of the riffing--Final Justice is almost offensive in it's relentless mocking of Joe Don Baker, and not just his character, but as a person--not funny to me; and, Invasion of the Neptune Men, where by half way through the movie they're practically making no riffs other than "this movie sucks!" IMO, they never did this kind of stuff in the earlier years, and when they did stuff like it they did it with creativity--like in Manos, where the Mads actually feel bad for sending them such a terrible movie.

Something I noticed in those last couple years... it seemed like they laughed way too hard at each others jokes. Almost always some reaction to almost every riff. I liked it when for the most part, the riffs just were laid out there, good or bad... kinda like how The Office has no laugh track...

Oh I love it all. Rifftrax, MST and I'm sure looking forward to this project as well.
I do think there was a noticible difference in MSTs style as it progressed. Season 10 did absolutely get a little more blue (loads of weener jokes as compared to that kind of material earlier) and Bills style was more angry. I'm not saying that's bad, I think Bill's hilarious and I love a lot of the Season 10 episodes. And yes, the Joel stuff did have it's blue and dark riffs, but it was a different kind of dark, more playful and silly.
I can hear a difference in the type of riffs they did when I put on a Season 4 ep as compared to say, a Future War from year 10.
But its all great. I wont diss Rifftrax because the bottom line is that I laugh like mad. That's the whole point of these things, right? I want to laugh and Trax are funny.
And the people associated with CT are funny so I have high hopes.

I loved the Sci Fi episodes, every one of them. I just don't like Rifftrax at all.

Seems like people are viewing these projects as competing camps. That's not the case, as far as I'm concerned. I LOVE Rifftrax (and have almost all of them. And these have actually been bought by me, not gratis copies). I can't wait to see the Star Wars Holiday Special. Wait.... you had to BUY "Glitter"?!

No, we didn't have to buy Glitter. In addition, I have the time-coded DVD that was used. In addition to THAT, a very nice fellow by the screen-name of Grillslinger presented us with a nicely labeled version with the riffing included. In addition to THAT, I can hear it live anytime I want to! RAD

If I were you, I would be tempted to pull out "Glitter" at home and see how many things your wife could throw at you in an attempt to force you to pick out a different DVD.

Wait.... you had to BUY "Glitter"?! Hell, even if I was MJP, I'd buy Glitter, I mean I'm just amazing in it! Huh? But seriously, her writing had always made me laugh, and while I liked Pearl, she didn't really get the chance to make fun of the movies. Halfway through Glitter I stopped myself and realized she'd never really commented on a movie "live" (that I'd experienced anyway), yet I hadn't really noticed because the timing was so natural. Baby she was born to riff! And briefly touching on the "competing projects" thing -- will Mary Jo be the one ring that binds them all? Here's hoping for a phone-in Magic Voice appearance on mst3k.com...

Same here. Early MST3K is better to me for the same reasons. I like the Sci-Fi channel eps and all, but they are more vitriolic in many places instead of having jokes that riff what is being seen on screen. And it really started happening in late season 8. Invasion of the Neptune Men is the ep I remember when most of the jokes were just about the movie being bad rather than riffing along with what they're seeing. And then there's Space Mutiny. In the history of the series, the Brains would have never missed an opportunity to riff on Battlestar Galactica, until that episode. Plus every shot of the Battlestar Galactica footage was called "lame", when it was about as good as anything on the first Star Wars movies. It's almost like the series got new writers around that time.

They publicly apologized for missing the Battlestar Galactica jokes in that episode. I accepted their apology - though they still deserved - and received - demerits. Well, I agree with Bathtub. The premise is the same reason Dave Barry wrote a humor column for decades, to make people laugh. I don't need much more.
But regardless, thanks for the honest responses. I'd still like to invite anyone who has yet to try out RiffTrax, for whatever reason, to check them out sometime before forming an opinion about them. There should be something to appease every riff appetite, I think if "Gentle Riffing" is your thing, perhaps try out Fellowship of the Ring or Road House? I think those reflect general affection for the source material.
And since CT has been delayed, if you had any plans or expectations for Monday, why not take in the Star Wars Holiday Special instead?

May I consider we continue the CC vs. Sci-Fi debate here. Then this thread can get back on topic, and an old thread is getting reused. It's like conservation or something.

And I'd add Missile to the Moon, it wasn't a "mad at the movie" type of Trax and is as funny as any riff project out there, Film Crew or MST3K! It's a crying shame folks are missing out . Come on, let the good time roll. It's fun when it's fun!
