Alright, Now that we've got some extra time to wait for CT's unveiling ( & I'm sure RAD will burst forth w/ the revised date the moment he knows ! ) . . .I find that Joel saying > "once we got this curious new show on its feet, and were finally able to see it manifest in the real world, we realized we wanted to have a bit more fun playing with some of the creative ideas that emerged in the process." < certainly reminded me of his recent quotes about the birth of MST. It didn't arrive fully-formed , and , once on it's feet , got tweaked. ( Over years , truly )
So ! With the majority of MsTies seeming to prefer their riffing with an overall premise that also breaks up a relentlessly bad movie , are we well into wondering just what the setting IS ??
Time-Tubes huh ? Are we staging this in "the much too distant future" ? Can't really be back in the 40's or such , as that would preclude 96% of cultural references ( unless they'd studied all succeeding decades )
The fact that they're all in matching olive suits ! . . . mmmh , a scientific team no doubt ?
Who's whiling away the extra time coming up with scenarios soon ripe for debunking ?
( And RAD , who once again has a home-team advantage , if you have a hint-link where all 100 words of a description can be found , bring it on . . we've got some time to kill here ! )

Based on the little bit of information that's released, I'm gonna guess that they are somewhere in the future, and are essentially going through this "time tube" full of DVDs and "studying" the films.

I'm not sure it would be a show placed in the future. If the diagram of the Time Tube I saw was any indication, the tube is supposed to hold 500 DVDs of riffed movies. I don't see why future scientists would need to use the time tube to riff on already riffed movies. Unless I'm misunderstanding the picture. I'm guessing the Cinematic Titanic crew are adding riffs to movies to put into the Time Tube for that "greatest legacy" thing. They even have their own logo stamped onto the side, so I assume they created it. Maybe the world is facing disaster so Joel and crew decide to riff on movies to create some sort of legacy for potential survivors. Odd premise, but that's all I can get out of it right now.

Maybe you're right. I guess I didn't read that closely enough.

I had the same thought, but their jokes and references will likely be based on life in this era, not some futuristic one.

I gotta go with pablum's take on it,
They're of this era , preparing a "time-capsule" for the future.
Soon we see fer' sure !!

Well, I'm guessing Trace is playing someone with telekinetic abilities or something, and I'm basing this speculation ENTIRELY on that photo where everyone is holding the Time Tube, and Trace has got his hands in the air looking like he's trying to lift it with the power of his MIND.
Of course, it's much more likely he was just being silly.
"I am MENTOK, THE MINDTAKER! WooooEEEEOOOOoooo..." "Trace, would you stop goofing around and help us hold up this damn thing!?" "...oooWWEEEEoooooo..." *sigh* "Nevermind, just take the picture, Steve."
(Well, that's what I think whenever I see that photo. ;D )
Anyway, a "Mr. Death" over at the Rifftrax forums who apparently works for CT mentioned that the theme is definitely not boat-related. So um...there's that.

That would be so awesome. If they could fit that in at all it would be just perfect. Sorry, BigStoopid, it didn't work. Hit harder.

Could it be that it is a time-capsule full of 500 movies that our five member team discover? Maybe they are from the future where the earth has been destroyed is an atomic holocaust. Our team of five have find the time-tube and decide to watch these archive films to try to understand what kind of culture caused the destruction all those years ago. Not knowing of course that these films don't represent the best of our culture but the worst. The films inside were actually deemed too toxic for the environment and needed to be dissappeared. They were found to be indestructable and had too be sealed and buried away so noone would ever find and be corrupted by them ever again. Just brain-storming... Dave ;D

Good thing there'll still be DVD players 5000 years in the future. And that cross section of the time tube with their name at the top looks for all the world like a business advertising pen. When they open they're souvenir store, they must stock these.

Dave ;D I’m thinking its something along these lines. We’ll just have to wait and see! Hell, the whole premise could be, “Cast of MST needs some cash and so they get together to riff movies” and I would still buy it. =P
