The suspence is killing me. Can someone knock me unconscious until this thing premiers? Please? Alternatively, you could try Cinco's WaitMate. Just take one pill for each day you need to wait. Ask Jeff Goldblum.

Well, it's called a time tube, so we're definitely talking about sending movies to the future here. But, the riffs will be based on today, so it only makes sense that the riffs were added now and not in the future.
The only question in my mind is that you don't watch and riff on bad movies on purpose (at least premise-wise), so there has to be a force making them, just like the Mads, or Bob Honcho to the Film Crew.
So, my guess: the group has been assigned or is being forced to document the failures of cinema, so that they may be given to the future so that history does not repeat itself. There also may or may not be an impending end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it that is the impetus for all of this.

( And RAD , who once again has a home-team advantage , if you have a hint-link where all 100 words of a description can be found , bring it on . . we've got some time to kill here ! ) Well, we do have jobs and home lives and friends... Oh, wait. I don't anymore. Bring it on, Rad. Hey all, Would you believe me if I told you I have no idea? Really, I truly don't. I usually don't ask about anything unless I'm interested or curious about it, and, to be completely candid, I have never really had any interest in the purpose of the tube, although I'm becoming intrigued about it now... When MJ got back, I got a lot of info on a lot of stuff, but the tube wasn't anything we talked about, so I haven't a clue to its purpose within the Cinematic Titanic structure. And, rather than ask her, and being as much of a fan as anyone else here regarding this endeavor, I'll just wait and be surprised! RAD

I just figured we'd pass some "recently extended time" here wondering about the whole premise ( & not just the "tube" ). I wanna let it unfold as they intend , but I also saw so much focus on "what's the 1st film gonna' be" that I hoped to remind us that these are some highly creatives guys here ( Joel & Trace especially ) and they're no doubt setting this in some kind of new world. if not a Satellite of Love , perhaps a "Bunker of Despair" ?

well to me it would seem like they found the tube, basically a time capsule, that was buried years ago, the dvd's were in there, and theres a message in there.. im guessing whatevers wirtten in the tube will have an effect on the plot. and my guess would be they are studying them, not forced, but they want to see what was in them. or maybe the message tells them they need to watch them to find something else out. i dont really know. buttttt im not thinking its going to be a forced thing, that would be too close to the mst3k premise and I doubt they really want to go that route.

Putting them into the time capsule makes more sense to me, from the worlds fair images, and it means they aren't waaay into the future.

Plus, being way in the future lets them make fun, cheesy sci-fi sets.

Katie, I think you put your finger on it! This was exactly the line of reasoning that I was considering. They find a Time-Tube, loaded with DVD's (and I'd be VERY curious why these DVD's were selected to be opened at a later time), and watch them from a research perspective as opposed to a forced situation. That's my speculation, anyway... (and, seriously guys, I truly have absolutely NO idea about what the tube represents or what role it plays. and this is strictly my personal speculation, with no hidden clues or hints. I have just as much enjoyment speculating as the rest of you, and am just as curious to find out myself. So I'm not going to be asking and we'll all find out together!) RAD

Take a look at the graphic pablum posted: if that's accurate, they're preserving our greatest legacy - movie riffing. Which places the recordings around the present time or the not too distant future. Which makes modern culture references a lot easier to justify. Of course, once you accept that the Titanic crew (Titans?) believe movie riffing is our greatest legacy, you've don't need much further explanation of why they're standing through the movie.
I also noticed Trace wasn't helping to hold the tube - I chalked it up to some good old fashioned Dr. F style evil in making everybody else do the work. Though I'm not sure if that will be part of his character or not.

Gerson, you just blew my mind. Up til now I hadn't thought of them having characters. I've assumed they're all just being themselves like the Rifftrax folks.

Well, I'm not as creative as people here, so I won't add anything, but I have to say, everybody's coming up up some great ideas! I'm entertained just by reading them! I just hope the actual premise is as interesting as what I'm reading here! Wow!

Actually, I was sort of responding to Robyn's half-joking suggestion of Trace playing a character with telekinetic powers. My actual baseless theory is that these will be Joel Robinson / "Mike Nelson" type characters where they're sort of playing themselves.
