edit: no need to bash. And you're right, it's all speculation and hear-say.
Personally I am glad for all that Mallon put into the MST franchise. Just wish he'd see a little sense.

There's a lot of speculation going on here, and I'm not going to hammer Mallon any more than necessary, since that seems to be an unofficial sport around here. Either way...
* I don't know what kind of deal was struck back in the day, but Joel left the show before it was halfway complete, and Mallon remained until the very end. It seems to make sense he would own the rights to the IP and the show itself. Joel pretty much left the MST3K scene altogether for a long, long time.
* Most everyone in CT left MST3K (either at the end or earlier) and stopped doing the whole "riffing thing," aside from Josh and Trace on AFV, which doesn't count as far as I'm concerned. Another exception is Mary Jo, who did a Rifftrax not that long ago. The only ones who worked to find another outlet for the concept were Nelson, Corbett and Murphy. Everybody else appears to have just remained bitter with each other over the years.
If the launch of CT is a reaction to mst3k.com or vice versa, I'm guessing whoever wanted to come back first got the idea after seeing the success of Rifftrax and The Film Crew and realized that money could still be made with this concept. As an old-school fan of the original show, I'm frankly a little disappointed by Joel and company's sudden decision to come back and do something "they've always loved doing."
If that's the case, where you been, guys?

Let’s keep this on topic and keep it from turning into a Mallone bashing thread please.
Also, I should point out that nothing is “official” until CT issues an actual street date.
Edit to say - I hope your right though!

Yeah, sorry, didn't mean to bash or come off as bashing. Just listing what I knew in answer to the question, didn't mean to get off topic. :x
Maybe if we all stare at the CT website and focus our mental energy we can give Joel the strange urge to update.

I'm gonna change the thread title to reflect the unofficial nature of the news.
Nice detective work, Robyn; and thanks Frank for being so personable with fans!

I'm just wondering where things got icy between Mallon and the rest of the MSTers. From what I've gathered, a number of things: ... phoning it in the last few seasons ... This is an interesting concept. Could you explain it further? Perhaps explore the reasoning?

I was just sharing what I'd heard because I was asked, and the Mods said to please discontinue and get back to the original topic. So no, I'm not going to continue anything.

Perhaps another thread is required. Anyway, back to the thread on hand...
WOOHOO CINEMATIC TITANIC WOOOOOOO! We don't need no stinkin' new MST, we got a whole brand new show to fall in love with all over again!

I personally thought the quoted phrase was way the h*** out of line. But, as you said, we're not going to continue, so your point apparently stands without scrutiny.

I'm not trying to keep from being scrutinized, I was paraphrasing somebody else and the Mods said drop it in the end. Look, this is turning into a dumb argument really quick, and it shouldn't even be going on. Let's just quit it.

The Oozing Skull? Any idea why exactly? I mean, if they paid to use it? Probably like the Film Ventures International releases of MST3K, I don't get how it works but that's why they have those completely unrelated credit sequences and different titles (you know, like Space Travelers instead of Marooned). Yeah, it was something like that. Frank was just like, "Yeah, we have to do that for some reason, don't ask me to understand it." And lol, I guess I should've remembered that saying "Jim Mallon" around here is like setting off a series of firecrackers. XD

Maybe if we all stare at the CT website and focus our mental energy we can give Joel the strange urge to update. Somehow , upon reading this line above , I suddenly saw it as a Second Coming. Well, certainly our little version of it ! It's like returning to the original Tree of Life ( or a similar "The Fountain-like concept" ) , when it's been more like prunings that flourished nicely since Episode #512. `course , The Return of The Joel wasn't prophesized . now was it ? Was it ? . . . I'll gladly study the threads . . . like a Rabbinical student I'll study `dem threads !

Frank also said that Joel had basically wanted to bring MST3K back (which surprised the hell outta ME, let me tell you!) but, of course, he couldn't work out that legal junk with Jim Mallon. Oh if only. Everybody originally involved in the show wants to start MST3K back up it seems, but money has stopped it from ever likely happening. Sounds like its so close actually happening yet so far away. At least we get CT and the rest.
