AKA: The waiting thread. So the trailer is up, but we gotta wait about two weeks to get our grubby little hands on the dvds. www.cinematictitanic.com/PromoBIG.movBy that time I'm sure we'll all have analyzed the clips to death. And there is a lot we can tell from what we were given. First off, the set looks really nice and is almost less-intrusive than the MST3K shadowrama. Also, they do visual-gags! I speculated that given the set design they probably would interact more with the film in a visual way, and I was right. The cherry-picker cleaning bit looks hilarious. Host segments aka "interstitials" look to be done while the film is paused, and still in silhouetted form. And they look to be hilarious. (I love how Frank has to be reminded that this is the first Cinematic Titanic and there "is no history of Cinematic Titanic", but then he just goes on. That bit may be the funniest in the promo.) And speaking of which, it seems like they are, indeed, using their own first names. (Much like The Film Crew did, they may be playing caricaturized versions of themselves, though.) All five riffers remain riffing and on-screen for the duration of the episode. But most importantly, all the riffers are absolutely hilarious and at the very top of their games! I cannot wait for the full product to arrive!

As I said in the breakout "Oozing Tonight" thread , you've made a bit of jump to figure there's to be no host segments out of shadow. They wouldn't have designed and revealed a Time-Tube if we'd never see it , no ? hee-hee-hee. it's getting realer !

The sudden excitement of it all has my speculation machine working over-time, and perhaps jumping to a few too many conclusions. (or, if you prefer, my excitement pot has been stirred up to boiling now! lol.)

The riffing seems to have a distinct 'early MST3k' feel to it. I've only seen the trailer, but there seems to be a slightly zanier, airy quality to the riffing compared to the more cynical Film Crew/Rifftrax/Sci-Fi Channel style (Which I also enjoy). Such as Joel's creepy/grunty voice he used to employ for the monsters in early MST episodes (used in the slinky song). It's early, but that's the impression I get.

A good read on it too . . factor in Josh n' Trace , add Frank's "casual , left-turning" style . . . I don't think that's a leap. But they'll have no trouble being current either . Amy Winehouse references ?! Best of all worlds comin' folks !!!!!!!!!!!!

From MJP's blog: web.mac.com/degr00t/iWeb/Site/Blog/A02E9174-F4D3-4914-9920-2C8775EBE356.htmlWe shot the movie and then we shot the interstitials that will be sewn into the movie by talented movie tailorsSo, there will be host segments, and it sounds like they weren't all shot in shadowrama a la Frank's 'segment'. Maybe they're just pausing the movie midstream now, a la Cheap Seats, in addition to traditional host segments, or as an intro to the segments? I mean, why would they have those spiffy matching suits from the Lucas premiere and the wired photo shoot just for Shadowrama?

I'm not fond of the idea of new host segments. The Film Crew soured me on the concept... Really? Ok, we aren't discussing the Film Crew here, but I rather enjoyed their segments. Host segments as a whole really add to the experience, I find. In MST3K (and again in TFC) they provide great bookends to the feature, and well-needed breaks from the movies. Additionally, they provide a great outlet for skits based on the movie, which adds to the humor value. Maybe not everyone agrees, but I love host segments. (PS- my hundredth post! Wow, I accumulated posts quickly...)

If they can pull off amusing host segments, then more power to them. Admittedly, the Joel era had more consistantly better-written segments than the Mike era, so we shall see.

Looks like the whole thing is done in silhouette. Including host segments that use computer graphics for interaction.

I'm not sure were you'd get that , ( other then the shared urge to fill things in based on a minute of trailer ) but ! again . . . . they've designed things like Time-Tubes and matching suits to be visually seen with our viewing eyes. & there's a quote above somewhere from MJP about filming the interstitials. bet we're hearing a smidge of the "Theme" too !
