So , back on the Let's get Poopiety! thread , recent member ciredark said : Sex sells.
Come for the boobs, stay for the movie. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-= My response , once posted , asked me quite beguilingly if it could be a thread of it's own:
they're doing a boob-movie ??
Seriously , has anyone else stated how likely it seems that things will open up a bit in terms of the risque ?
Frank's "most beloved segment of Cinematic Titanic" appears to take place over a freeze-frame of brainy guts. Is language , violence and sex all gonna' loosen a bit ? . . . a lot ?
Is that a good thing ?
Our always pure MsT where sexual references were always cut-off with a quick "Hey...HEY !" may just be growing up . . . & getting horny , foul-mouthed & violence prone.
ya' know . . . I think this wants to be thread . . hmm.

I have no objection to boobies. As a matter of fact, I like boobies just as much as the next fellow.
BUT, that being said, I really do hope Cinematic Titanic keeps it clean. One of the great things about MST3K, particularly the Joel era, was that I usually don't have to worry about watching it while my kid is in the room with me. Besides, the fact that any risque humor they had in the show was so subtle, only added to the charm of the show.
I realize that this isn't MST3K, but I just think I will enjoy it more if they keep it just a little less mature than the scenario being implied.
More later. Gotta go read to my boy.

I think they'll probably go the Film Crew route and stretch a little farther, but still keep things mostly subtle. Blatant overly sexual humor would be bad, but it is nice that they don't need to worry about television censors getting in the way of a great riff given the chance.

They'll go "towards" "going there" if it suits the joke , but I can't see these folks tearing into a new (adult) toy-box and trying everything just cuz they can. On the other hand , maybe what I was really thinking was the tone of the "experiments" could be broadening. "The Brain of Oozing Skull-Blood" just looks seamier , ya' know ?

I’ve seen Brain of Blood and I don’t remember it being a booby movie. I hope that's the case. Besides the movie, I just will never understand why "dirty humor" is funny. I loved the style of MST in the Joel years, the feeling was just being goofy and fun. Almost everybody could and still can enjoy them, and me and my family love to watch them together. That's what turned me off to some of Rifftrax and The Film Crew. It takes no talent to use cheep themes and shock. I just hope by "gentle riffing" Joel means gentle for all.

So a poorly executed joke leads to an entire thread of misconstrued information.
The "Come for the boobies" comment was born from the recent push to abbreviate this project CineTit. The question was asked "If we call it that, what'll that lead to?" I was being clever in pointing out that cineTIT would lead some to investigate for the promise of boobs.
"Come for the boobs, stay for the movie"
everyone clear now?

There's a distinctiom between what led to your post within that thread , & what the seaminess of "Oozing Skull" had me wondering. yes , I showed your post as my launching point , but I didn't really mean to suggest "look what ciredark says". Sorry if it looked that way , & glad to clear it up . . . . .thanks !

You know, we're adults, so the riffers can actually go for subtle, and we'll get it. I also don't have any interest in gross-out movies or gross-out riffing. I hope that CT will eventually branch out into other types of movies, too. You know, films without things oozing or bleeding.

My 8yo is a junior riffer-in-training who occasionally gets in a good one ... well, for an 8yo. She is inspired via seasons 1-7 primarily, when things were kinder and gentler and still funny as all get-out. Let us recall The Sidehackers, which the Brains dealt with by cutting out the really brutal scene which surprised and revolted them all. There was plenty of film left to riff away at. This revised troupe could similarly cut out scenes of excessive blood 'n guts 'n overly-gooey monsterish types and still have a lot with which to work. Heck, even the golden-era Bugs Bunny cartoons had insinuation all over the place, but it went over kids' heads and gave the grups something to smile quietly to themselves about. Maybe that's why I like them so much to this day -- my kind of humor.

I have to say I wouldn't care much for the inclusion of more explicit sex jokes or raunchy humor...mostly just because that stuff is rarely ever funny. However, I can't really see Joel, Trace, or Mary being up for many of those kind of jokes anyhow. Maybe Josh but even then I don't know.
But I just don't think that will be much of an issue. MST3K was a lot 'friendlier/sillier' back in the Joel days anyhow and, just judging by the way he writes for the website, I doubt that's changed. Also I imagine many of these people have kids now...which also tends to reduce the willingness to go for the risky material.
So no worries IMO. That said, they probably will refrain from cutting scenes out of movies unless they absolutely have to. I seriously doubt any films with nudity, sex, or excessive gore will make the cut to begin with though.
