If CT DOES do mostly "grindhouse", "B Movie", or "drive-in" fare, then consider me firmly in the CT camp. I enjoyed The Film Crew, mostly because they riffed on old, obscure movies, but once things turned into Rifftrax and they started doing new blockbuster movies, it lost some of it's edge and I kinda tuned out. The advantage of watching MST as a youngin' was that I was exposed early to some great schlock classics like Bride of the Monster. Sometimes the movies themselves were "so bad they were good" (as much as I hate that kind of labeling, it's true), and the show introduced me to all kinds of weird B Movies that I eventually grew to love (like I Was a Teenage Werewolf) and made me want to seek out the unMistied versions. If Joel and Co. do nothing more than riff on old B movies, then I'd be pleased as punch.

Have you ever heard the kinds of b-movie buffs who gripe about MST3K's treatments? I would say the majority of b-movie buffs enjoy the bad aspects rather than finding the gold through the crap. Most I've met who aren't hardcore MSTies (many are though) are casual MSTies or haven't bashed the show. I've come a cross a few though. There are those few who are like the French critics who consider Roger Corman and Jerry Lewis genius. I'm mostly talking about people on the internet that I've seen. It's not like I know any real people, anyway.

I have no problem with their liking the movies. Hell, I like a good b-movie myself. It just gets obnoxious, though, when they curse MST and treat these films like they're blameless, holy creatures who should never be spoken of negatively. It's like, lighten up, guys. They're just movies, for goodness sake. It's akin to the director of Squirm thinking he's made a noteworthy masterpiece. Gag me with a fork. I know that is why I find it really funny with MST fans bitching about Mike doing RiffTrax for movies they really like. One guy once compared it to Mike insulting his wife!

Yeah, I don't really get that. I love the Star Trek movies and The Lord of the Rings, but I think they're prime riffing material. Of course, as I've said before, there are some films I can't personally imagine riffing, but I certainly wouldn't be offended if Mike did them.
