I think it's smart on Rifftrax's part, since they're going to need all the help they can get once CT gets rolling. I predict that within a year, Mike will show up at Joel's doorstop dressed as a hobo (much like on the Rifftrax website) looking for a job. Ummm..... Hargo, what's yer beef? Well, it could have anything to do with any of the following: 1. The wildly inconsistent Rifftrax, which contain rambling dialogue instead of making reference or observance riffs in many spots. 2. Kevin Murphy's insistence upon resorting to low-brow humor similar to that of Larry the Cable Guy or Jeff Foxworthy. In fact, someone really ought to have a fart joke counter for each Rifftrax. 3. The short length of time it takes between each release. When you focus on quantity, quality usually suffers as a result. However, since the Rifftrax crew know that MST3k fans are rabid and the discs cannot be pressed with the commentary, there's little need to actually work on their craft since the Rifftrax will be bought regardless of the quality. 4. Did I mention the wildly inconsistent Rifftrax, which contain rambling dialogue instead of making reference or observance riffs in many spots?

The Joel vs Mike flame wars are long gone. Lets not rekindle those flames again please. =P I think we're all beyond that. Amen to that. I was one of the first to abandon the show after Joel left and saw what happen after that on usenet. Ugly. I'm going to do everything I can to make sure I don't fall down that path. I hate the idea of these ventures fracturing the camp. I'm a fan of all these guys and I've enjoyed Rifftrax. Just waiting on my chance to test the CT waters, as well.

If these new projects fracture the camp, then those MSTies who get fractured can go to h-... er, someplace warm and thoroughly unpleasant. If people are so fanboyish that they can't, at the very least, tolerate another squad's series, then they really should just get out of the fandom, because we'd be better off without them. Also, seek counseling. It's just a damn show. Insert the usual spiel here: Mike is not better than Joel, Joel is not better than Mike, they're all good, it's just a matter of personal preference, blah, blah, blah. Do we perpetually have to go over this? I have my issues with Rifftrax, but why must we hate? (In Mike's words, at least disguise the hate.

You know, I always wondered what felt off about a lot of the Rifftrax, and what you pointed out seems right. (I just watched "Dare Devil" last week.) At times, they seem too busy, talking to each other, going on and rather then making silly jokes. But then, as I've said before, their need to be rather caustic, that has been the main reason I don't prefer them. Just not my groove.

But sadly, just as with the Joel/Mike flame wars it seems inevitable. There's just something about some people, it's like they are not happy unless their stirring the pot and stirring it often. They couldn't just make their point and move on, stop watching MST or whatever. They had to bring it up ad naseum. Screw it, if it gets to that point with these projects I'll stay off those particular forums. I'm looking forward to CT a LOT, but when I feel like celebrating CT I don't want to have to wade through a dozen posts trashing Rifftrax, made by the same people who are saying the same things, or vice versa. That nonsense is already getting old and we don't even have the Oozing Skull in our hands yet. I love Joel more than anything, but I never felt the need to hate Mike. Mike is great, I can still enjoy Mike a LOT without that diminishing my adoration for Joel.

Personally, I enjoy both (at least, what I've seen of CT). And, I have to say, all this fussing over which is better and why this is bad about one or the other is really off-putting. I'd almost like it if there was a single thread for all that type complaining that I could avoid. It won't happen, but it'd be nice. It's not necessary or needed to praise one project by slamming the other. Can't we all just get along?

This is an exciting time to be a MSTie. Let's not spoil it with human nature, won't we?

Theres obviously fans of each here, not need to stir the flames. The only thing we need is a review from the first person to get their copy.

This is an exciting time to be a MSTie. Let's not spoil it with human nature, won't we? Doctor Zoidberg is right! I'm not going to lock a thread that has good discussion potential. As long as everyone plays nice. That being said, there will be no CT-Rifftrax flame wars allowed here.

BTW, this thread wasn't meant to "stir flames" (I didn't even know there WERE flames!).
Rather, it was meant to point out a practice on Youtube that I find...unsavory. That's all.
BTW, I've never seen a complete Rifftrax. Film Crew, yes. Rifftrax, no. The previews seem kinda flat and I'd rather not buy a bad movie AND the commentary. Seems...inefficient. I did order CT, though...

The beauty of capitalism is that the one with the best overall product (quality, affordability, ease of use, etc.) will get the most money. It won't be the one who fights the best.
But I think Rifftrax is going to have to re-evaluate their stance on selling dvd's, because I can honestly say that I have already bought the CT dvd, yet I have only bought 12 of the rifftrax's. (I also bought all 4 film crew dvd's). So they will have to take notice of where the fans want to put their money.
Seriusly, I think any competition will be of most benefit to people like me, who want things 'right now', in a save-able format, and 'on my tv, not my pc'.
Remember, CT said their poll indicated that 4 out of 5 folks said they want it in a dvd format.
The real winners will be the fans, if there truly is a competition going on. I don't believe that there is a 'fight' going on between the two entities. I think they both know that a true mst3k fan will like both of them, and buy from both. But I do think they will spur each other into better pleasing the paying public (thats alot of p's!). P's out.

There are many good things to be said about competition actually. It encourages innovation and uh, well I forgot but I’m sure there’s a lot of other stuff. Yeah. Either way, it’s going to be a win for the customers.

If they want to continue to Riff mainstream movies (which is what tons of fans wanted MST to do) then audio only is the only way to go. You really think FOX or George Lucas would license away DVD rights to Star Wars films? Seriusly, I think any competition will be of most benefit to people like me, who want things 'right now', in a save-able format, and 'on my tv, not my pc'. Remember, CT said their poll indicated that 4 out of 5 folks said they want it in a dvd format. Which is exactly what you get when you use the EZTAKES service(this first release not withstanding). You download it and then burn it then watch it on your TV. With a little bit of reading you could even make your own DVDs of RiffTrax too. Other than when I was beta testing the RiffTrax player I have never watched a RiffTrax on my PC....

I was thinking more along the lines of the 3 members of rifftrax being more open to reviving The Film Crew.
I will probably get more rifftrax down the road as time permits, but not until I've bought all the dvd's that the two entities have released. So thats where my money will go first. I may run out of spending money before I get to rifftrax, and they have to accept that.
And for me, I'd rather watch those 3 guys riff on older and more unknown crappy movies like the ones they've done with TFC and what CT is doing (and what MST always did). But I love all I've seen of rifftrax so far.
