Okay, I was surprised when "Stephen Hawking" made an appearance, and I was surprised the first time they stopped the film, but I was really shocked when, in response to Trace mopping up the leathery-skinned lady's makeup, Frank said, "Good job, Trace. If that doesn't get us on the Bravo Network nothing will."
Do you think that was a casual riff, or a peek at their real goal? I'm leaning toward the latter, to my surprise. If sales are good, and the movies are public domain, why wouldn't Bravo or some other company be interested?

I think that was just referencing how Bravo has a bunch of make-over shows, I wouldn't look too much into it. Though it would be cool to see 'em on TV.

Damn. I was hoping it wouldn't be something like that.

No, I think he has a point. Remember they did the same thing with SciFi in the Movie, when Trace said "Oh please, please let us get the SciFi Channel." This was after CC stopped production on season six, but before the season seven contract was signed and they were in talks with SciFi. Bravo seems like the type of network that may be akin to this sort of upscale thing. I don't know for sure, but I got that vibe again.

Despite all efforts, CT isn't nearly gay enough to fit into Bravo's lineup.
Zing!

My ears perked up when I heard that Bravo comment too. It would be really cool to see the gang on TV again. Let's hope that riff reflects an actual goal!

Honestly, that would suck because of how Bravo does all their commercials with that guy. HE ANNOUNCES THE SHOWS and then comes in with a little voice SOMETIMES IT ECHOES and sometimes it's normal, BUT WHICHEVER THE CASE it really really sucks. And Joel would be doing the Tim Gunn pose in his grey suit saying "Make poopie happen!" and Mary Jo would be doing this catty thing to the camera like Heidi Klum, Josh, Frank and Trace would be dressed like the Real Housewives talking about whatever mundane problem Joel had gotten them into this week. I tell you it would be awful. Not to mention, these folks all know the grind involved in a weekly show, getting it together once a month would seem more like play and less like work if you know what I mean. I think it stands a chance of lasting a lot longer if it's something they're doing out of love than something they're doing because a product needs to be out NOW or they'll miss a deadline or their kids will go hungry that night.

If they prove to themselves and the industry that they can go it alone first, a TV deal could work well. Especially if they're able to sell it as 'reruns', premiering a few weeks to months after their download & DVD sales. If the price points are right, the tv money is essentially gravy for them, it exposes them to a larger audience who may jump over to buying direct, and they know they can survive if the network cancels them. Meanwhile, the network gets the show for a little more than broadcast rights to the original movie and the lower cost makes up for the fact that the most loyal audience members have already seen it - a la the deal CC has with Futurama now. The fans may eventually get a lower up front price, since there's a wider audience and a second revenue stream. Of course, there'd be no refund on the episodes we paid full price on before a deal was announced.
Does anybody with a better understanding of the industry want to tell me where I'm wrong?

Hmmm, That may work as a double-meaning, but that particular "Oh please, please let us get the SciFi Channel" line always seemed to simply refer to one's cable-system having , or not having certain channels in their line-up. At lot more common at time. Folks in the suburbs having channels that the inter-city didn't have yet as the cable system hadn't been updated. you know

When the movie came out, I lived in a college town that didn't have SciFi on cable and the dish systems weren't really around. Comedy Central had a similar problem in places a few years earlier. At the same time, wasn't Bravo one of the channels that was a candidate to pick up the original show at one time? Anything's possible.

It was of course to the casual moviegoer refering to the Interoceter getting cable, and the avalibility of the SciFi channel. But I think there was a clear double meaning for insiders, since they were already on the outs with CC and probably thinking of other options.

I don't doubt that at all. I'm sure SciFi was on their mind and there's no question they're capable of winking at us through the screen. I'm not sure the CT Bravo reference was the same thing, though. People who followed the show at the time of the movie knew the status of the series in regards to Comedy Central and might be expected to know that other networks could be involved. I don't know that much about CT, but I do know that right now they appear to be focusing on getting DVDs of their show out and at some point offering downloads. Seems too soon to guess that they're going to end up on television. But if Bravo were to do it, it would be one of the niftiest moves a network has made in a long time. Probably since SciFi picked up MST3K
