CT is great but the team of Mike, Bill, & Kevin are great too. I love them all, they're just about the only good humor writing people on commercial video. I have no favorites, just pure glee that they are all bringin' it. It's even better with the two entities in my opinion, because while one is busy making new material, the other is releasing something. It keeps the funny coming all the time. I couldn't be happier they are both doing what they do best. I hope they both stay the way they are and don't join up together. There is nothing wrong with the whole situation, nothing that needs any tinkering with. God bless them both!

C.T. definitely has a better visual style but unfortunately, some of the silhoette sketches like Trace's makeover fell flat. They were also trying a little to hard to visually act stuff out and they've still got to settle in a bit. You get the good with the bad but the main thing is and has always been the riffing and that's the best thing about all of these. There are ups and downs on all of them.
C.T. does have the advantage with the cooler theme song, though. And an actual progressive website unlike Film Crew. I'm waiting to hear when the next batch of F.C. will be coming out but the site hasn't changed in a year!

Well the only change was Kevin getting Erik to add some RiffTrax ads to the site so that they could get some referrals while they were getting all that press last year.

Somebody said this somewhere but I can't find it now so I'll just repeat it because I think it's the best point I've read about the CT/FC/Rifftrax debate:
FC and Rifftrax feel like later sci-fi era MST. CT feels like early Joel era MST. So now we get to have a return of that debate all over again. I'm just glad that both camps now have something to make them happy. And if you're a fan of both camps than you should be doing hand-stands about now.

I'm DEFINITELY doing handstands now. Ina perfect world, C.T. and F.C. BOTH would be putting out 6 films a year and those, along with the latest new MST collection would be a perfect way to spread out the good stuff.

It's looking more and more like Mike and company are sticking with rifftrax for the near-future. The two year delay kind of killed it.

It looks pretty bad for Film Crew. If the guys were at all interested in continuing it I don't think they'd be keeping silent while what little press they got slowly fades into memory.
Really a shame. I liked FC a lot better than Rifftrax and a little better than CT. You wouldn't think Rifftrax would be so time consuming they couldn't take a few weeks off to film another four videos or so, but...guess not...

Still as of five weeks ago, Bill Corbett was still holding out some hope they could make it happen again. I sort of suspect Shout Factory's recent pickup of mst means they'd have to go back to Rhino, go over to Legend (anybody know why they didn't pick them up after Rhino dropped them?) or find yet another backer/distibutor. Or perhaps they could follow the lead of others and just self-release.

This is getting confusing... I would say that if they wanted to do the Film Crew stuff then they would have stopped doing Rifftrax already as it dilutes their own market. Plan 9 should have been the next Film Crew offering for obvious reasons but it wasn't for not obvious reasons. And it's sad that this is more of a discussion than the next CT release.

Brother. I thought the discussion around here was getting a little carried away. Then I see this blog post at PopMatters. Sheesh! A prime example of someone in the media taking some facts, throwing in a huge bunch of speculation, and then making a huge big deal out of it. (Evidently getting worked up into a fanboy frenzy is this writer's preferred style: check out his review of Oozing Skull.) I'm glad Sampo made a well-written, mature response to it.

Why would Mike and co bother to have another company like Shout factory release something that they could do just as easily at RiffTrax? Keep it all in house. From a money perspective it would make sense to keep the FC genre of movies within RiffTrax to maximize on profits. Like with Missile to the Moon and the new Plan 9.
I mentioned this over on the RiffTrax forum.

Well, I have a review of the first CT movie on my MySpace blog (yawn), but it centers on the movie and how it all works. I even guess on what premise may exist. This is also a blantant attempt to get people to visit this blog, but please take a look. For the rest of my (yaaaaawwwnnnnnn) MySpace, visit here.

Okay, I got my copy and I'm 15 minutes in... and so far it absolutely destroys Rifftrax in every aspect. It's like I'm watching a brand new episode of MST3K. So good.

I finally watched it. It was... eh, alright. It definitely feels like an early Joel era MST episode. Which means it doesn't make me laugh all that much. Still, it could have been worse, and I'll be interested to see how the project improves. I haven't tried many Rifftrax so I can't compare the two, but the Film Crew releases are for now still far and away my favorite of the revival projects.
