Lookit the wee little puppet man! Take a look at episode 605. You can clearly see Mike's silhouette on the grassy knoll in frame 45982. Timmy was the second gunman.

I read the interview and that part where he didn't even comment on Mike & co. kind of ticks me off. Him saying nothing indicates he doesn't even want to talk about them and that indicates some form of animosity. Why? He said he was arguing with Mallon about the future of MST and that's why he left. True, Joel created the concept but he had a big group of people with him, of which, Mike was the head writer and continued as such for the entire run of the show. He was there twice as long as Joel. My point is, I think Mike's got every right to riff on flicks and he's certainly not stealing any of MST's thunder. The success of RiffTrax and the film Crew certainly showed that there's more money to be made from riffing and probably made C.T.'s emergence more viable. This is one of those rare instances where the fans are in a win-win by getting more quality MST than they've been getting for the better part of a decade, with more variety and the same level of brilliance. I'd hate to think Joel or any of these guys would start to get pissy about any of these ventures. The more the merrier and they've ALL earned the right to pursue their projects. And if Mallon wants to bring the puppets back, more power to HIM as well.

Well, Mike responded to a question about Joel's lack of Rifftrax acknowledgment and possible tension between the two on his blog: blog.rifftrax.com/2008/01/25/bonesaw-is-ready-2/#comments"Well, there’s no ill will from me, either - I wish CT the best. In fact, I invited Joel to collaborate with RiffTrax but didn’t hear back, so I guess they wanted to go their own way, which is totally understandable.
Now, is there ill will between me and Barry Gibb? Oh, yes, my friend. You’ll feel a chill in the room every time his name is mentioned.
Someday I’ll tell the story. Someday…"So Mike doesn't have an issue. Which is nice, cause Mike seems like a super nice guy. Now, I adore Joel as much as the next rabid MSTie/fangirl, but not even calling Mike back to say he's not interested? Joel, you're breaking my heart over here...

It sorta reminds me of the Space Ghost interview Joel had. Where Space Ghost says:
"Aw. What's the matter Robinson? You got the copyright on making fun of movies? Hmm?"
Maybe Joel thinks that. Still, I prefer his style over Mike's.

The fact Joel didn't give a response like Mike's is the weird part. Most former colleagues who still get along would be happy to say something complimentary, if vague, like "I wish them the best" or "I'm sure they're doing great work" or etc. Maybe acknowledge that Mike, Bill, and Kevin did a great job keeping the flame of movie riffing alive? Or even crack a joke like Bill did with the iceberg picture. But nothing?
Of course, we're just basing our conjectures off a single cherry-picked e-mail interview. Hopefully, Joel will say something in the future to dispel any impression that he may be bitter.
Something like: "Film Crew was great, Rifftrax is great, and CT will be even greater! Enjoy them all, won't you?" or whatever. I mean these guys have to know that among fans there's always been sort of a Joel/Mike split. Why do anything to perpetuate it?
They should want to share their fan base, not split it into factions.

Back in the day, I was miffed that Mike replaced Joel and I was not happy to change up. Looking back amongst all the flicks, I now find that I like Mike's stryle a bit more than Joels. Still like Joel, though and that's why I pick up and will continue to pick up any and all collections, F.C. and C.T. new movies. Whoever's style you like more, you have to admit that they both know how to make with the funny. Joel just likes doing more with his silhoette and Mike sticks more to the written jokes themselves. Heck, I wouldn't mind a "guest-starring-merging" of F.C. and C.T. sometime just for fun.

I just hope Joel answers the question in some way soon, because I have a feeling some fan might confront him in person at the MN launch party, and that would be ten shades of awkward.

Interesting that he ignored the RiffTrax question. Wonder if Joel feels slighted by Mike using "his" idea. I think there could certainly be some truth to that. Mike has basically made an entire career out of Joel's concept. I think the quality of CT is a bit of a wake-up call to people that presummed Mike was the heart and soul of MST3K. That said, I still think Mike's one of the best comedy writers/performers in the business. Mike may be making a living off "Joel's concept" but let's face it, movie riffing was around even before MST3K. Other examples like "It Came from Hollywood" (which MST3K is nearly a carbon copy of) "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" "Firesign Theater" and even "What's Up, Tiger Lily" predate the show by many years. But I agree about the quality of CT being a wakeup call to those who presumed Mike was the heart and soul (or at least funnybone) of MST3K. In fact, I've never been more sure that he was. Note to the CT crew: be more funny.

New Email Club message about CT hitting the Rolling Stone magazine 'Top Ten'.
Also, Josh mentions this interview, and the ensuing bru-haha.
Quote:
Another boost came last Friday with Joel’s answers to readers questions being posted at SlashDot.org. We’re glad to say our new server held up to the “SlashDot effect” traffic.
A note on the SlashDot interview: It has come to our attention that a certain unanswered question (posted as unanswered by the editor) has caused rampant online speculation of a “Riff’t” within the MST3k alumni community. This is not the case. In fact, I just saw Joel yesterday and the last thing he said was “Hey, if you see Rifftrax, say ‘hi’”.
To clear up any further questions about that or any other items of interest , Joel is planning a Q and A with our fans in the next few weeks. More details soon. Get your questions ready.

Quite true, quite true. In fact, I talked to Joel about the question being unanswered, and I will in fact be leading the charge for a whole, spankin'-brand-new Q&A with Joel that YOU guys are going to be very involved with. So, start imagining that if you could ask Joel anything you wanted, what would it be? RAD

Thank you, RAD. You continue to show that you are, in fact, Da Man.
OK, people! If you thought that the questions at Slashdot were "weird" or "bland," here's your chance! Let's get together some full-bodied, robust questions that are worthy of the Titans.

Aside from the non-answer question, I think the biggest question on everybody's minds (at least mine) is this:
Now that we know with 100% certainty that you didn't want to leave the show, can we ever expect to see you patch things up with Jim and start a revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in its original form in our lifetimes?
