First of all thanks to Joel and RAD for all of their time spent on this. Great Q&A. Also thanks to Joel for answering two of my inane questions! And thanks to you lot for asking some great questions! The whole not watching someone else is a great point. Steve Carrell has said that he didn't watch much if any of the British version of the Office so that he didn't ape Ricky Gervais' performance. He wanted his own take on things. Yes, but some of the things said suggests there is a rift between Joel and Mike...

Good point Donna, a lot of writers don't read other's works of the same genre, comic writers don't read competitors comics, etc. It makes it easier to avoid problems that could arise and may be better for their sanity.

Thanks RAD for driving this baby home.
Anytime you are in Houston, you and the misses are welcome to stop on by for a spot of tea and some cookies. Oh wait, we are in Texas....... make that beer and ribs.

That was a great interview. Much better than the Slashdot one. Thanks a lot, RAD and Joel.

I'm getting a little dismayed that there's so much anal-analysis over how much of each other's work they've seen !! Some good points , sure . . . and use of the word "feudiness" , but all in all it's starting to sound like a bunch of children of divorce who can't get mom & dad back together. You guys seem to be glossing over some major sh*t Joel eluded to ! Would he even answer this one if it was without merit : Mastershake:Now that we know with 100% certainty that you didn't want to leave MST3K, can we ever expect to see you patch things up with Jim and start a revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in its original form in our lifetimes?
Mastershake, anything is possible.
<< I mean , would he ?!
And the most he said against doing a Rifftrak himself is that they've only just done the 1st CT and it's a bit soon. He left some wonderful , heaven-sent dots to connect and a lotta' you'se guys are hung up on subtle tones and hidden agendas. It seems

Okay, so maybe Joel and Mike aren't, like, totally BFFs - who cares!? As long as they're not trying to sabotage each other - and I see NO evidence for THAT - and keep bringing on the funny, then it's all good! Jeepers!

( just to stir it up again ) , Joel does float the notion of eventual possibilities , once he's past the birth of CT and it's up and running. He leaves a few "clues" as to possible MSTy developments . . . but no one else seems to see those.

I don't get the whole, "How come Joel hasn't watched Rifftracks" thing either.
I mean heck, I haven't even seen Rifftracks yet! It doesn't mean I don't approve of Mike's project. I just don't have the time to. Joel's not the only busy bee around here.
But I have seen the Legends Films commentaries, and the Film Crew DVDs, and I can safely assume that Rifftracks is well done.

I also have to take exception to calling him out over some perceived Rifftrax rift. One of the points of contention was that he was probably not too busy to view or participate in one. Come on! Look at it analytically for a second. He's brought his original idea to fruition which involved designing and building a set, designing, redesigning, maintaining and running a website, dealing with the business of securing rights, finding a distributor, writing a script, doing three live shows and the travel and planning involved with each, retouching the script when they saw it needed some things after the live show, doing some interviews, generating buzz, and then there's the fact that he's probably trying to provide for and spend time with his family in the meantime while this thing gets off the ground. That sounds pretty busy to me and this time they don't have a tv station to handle any of the work for them. I'll cut him some slack, there. . So because he is so busy balancing work and family (which BTW, who isn't?) this excludes him from returning a phone call to a former colleague in a timely fashion? I get tired of this mindset some people seem to have about artistic folk. Just because someone is an artist or a 'creative' person then they are not bound by the same rules of common courtesy as the rest of us? This I've never understood.

Me, personally? I just repeat to myself, it's just a downloadable riffing service and/or straight to DVD riffing product, I should really just relax. But that's just me.

You can make a big deal out of it in your world, in my world it's not.

Okay, let's talk about something else. How about this?
Harpo:
1. I would really like to know if anything special will be planned for the "20th anniversary" of mst3k (would that be considered this year or next year?). perhaps another official mst3k convention?
Harpo: There are rumblings.
Hello? Did anyone else freak out when they read that? If there is any chance of a 20th anniversary MST convention I will just die from happiness. Let's cross our fingers guys! ;D

I freaked out at a bunch of his teasers! He didn't rule out a 20th anniversary celebration, a crossover of some sort, even the return of MST. What was one of his responses? "Anything's possible!"? To me, that says, "I'm willing to discuss it and willing to make it work."
