I can't really speak about your bumfuzzling (though it sounds intoxicating) but I can speak about Aretha Franklin with some autho... well, no, I can't do that either, but I can ask what's the big whoop about it?
What's the big whoop about it?
Is it 'cause she's too big a star, or 'cause the Newport thing is kind of lame, or 'cause she's not exactly known as the Queen of Jazz?
I accept the word of soulgroupie as gospel in all things.

good questions, sparky, all of them. i would never turn down the opportunity to see miz franklin in concert, but she just doesn't put me in the mind of jazz. i know that doesn't really matter - jazz, blues, r&b, folk - they all are a blended tapestry, and i enjoy and appreciate all of those genres. i don't mean to be picky. it just seems kind of odd to me. i'd love to go, though, and see her (despite my bitching), as well as herbie hancock and sonny rollins (even though hancock and rollins are not appearing in the same show as franklin). i'm sure it will be a darned good show. darned good!

Ruf, ruf! I'm totally diggin' on the tapestry vibe you're layin' down, but I gots one question: are Hancock & Rollins the ones that did Good Night Henri, Good Night? i'm sure it will be a darned good show. darned good! I don't see why not.
