Just watched Buying Food. That was the best short I've seen yet. I was honestly chuckling or laughing out loud for most of the short's 11 minutes. The narration riffs were generally among my favorites from the show, and shorts like this are chock full of them (my favorite being the narrator's claim about it being easy to cook good meals from quality steaks, and Bill's reply). The short itself could pretty much carry the show, too, which is always good. This is beyond "Shopping for Dummies," it's more like "Shopping for Utter Morons Who Have Never Entered a Supermarket," and the guys point this idea out in a number of riffs as well. This is highly recommended, and I'd rank it easily with the best shorts shown during MST3k's run.
Skipper Learns a Lesson and Patriotism weren't quite as good; they were generally decent material with some absolutely hilarious lines thrown in here and there. Bob Crane's narration on the latter was the most notable thing about either one.
Things picked back up again for Down and Out. This was a safety film about being careful not to trip or fall down. Essentially, it just featured a guy wandering around falling prey to every conceivable thing that could possibly be imagined to trip him, while also occasionally making poor judgment calls involving ladders. Sometimes the short reached for Final Destination levels of contrived accidents involving various combinations of boxes and (gasp!) stairs. The short itself had me gasping, and the guys did a mostly great job of riffing it. Another highly recommended short.

I liked Skipper and Patriotism the best out of the four. It's funny how people see the same thing differently. This weeks short I like the best yet. The Trouble With Women and Right or Wrong?both made me laugh like crazy.

Out of the shorts we've rec'd for Short Month, I thought Down And Out and Buying Food are the funniest so far. I'll be watching/reviewing Women and Neighbors tonight.
