I just got a bit of a "no, I don't think this new MST3K thing of yours is gonna work out. Now excuse me while I go make a new MST3K website and MST3K Flash toons and sell MST3K merchandise" vibe from it. I know what you mean fishbulb. I did feel like Jim kinda shut down to the idea after it got too hard to figure out. Personally, I don't see why it would be so difficult to make two anniversary episodes and use different cast members, but hey, I'm just a fan. What do I know? I just think it could have been worked out, and it seemed like he just kinda...gave up. Anyway, it was really nice of Jim to come out and do this interview for us, and it was cool to hear his side of the story. He certainly answered the questions that I had been pondering for a while! And hey, answering all the hard questions now will certainly make his life easier when he goes to Comic-Con. Now nobody will feel the need to verbally attack him in an attempt to look cool! Though I must admit, I was kinda looking forward to watching the entire cast of the show jump down from their podium and beat the snot out of anyone who tried to be an ass...

We still don't know why Jim tried to hawk his colleques' personal items on EBay.

I also would like to thank Jim Mallon and Satellite News for a great interview. The only question I felt that he dodged a bit was why Joel left the show. I don't think we will ever know the real answer.

I think that Jim's always been in a bad position. He's got Clueless TV executives above him who hold the money and creative people with him that always want to change things.
The people with the money always want to improve things, like get rid of Mr. Spock in Star Trek TOS or cut Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the Wizard of Oz. Jim was the one who had to politely tell them to go blank themselves. But he had to change things for them once in a while to keep them happy.
On the other side, truely creative people usually want to tinker and he can't afford to change too much if he wants to keep the show on the air. He was bound to have run ins with Joel. Its neither ones fault. The system is rigged against truly creative people.
Most creative shows suceed when the creative people are seperated from the suits. They don't speak the same language and frequently don't get along. Jim was fairly creative and good with the suits so he could be a translater. Every show needs someone to blame and Jim's the one.

I'd like to see Shout Factory pony up the dough to secure the rights to those first three films and release them all intact as a set...

It could happen two ways. Someone with a lot of money made it happpen or someone invents a rifftrac with pictures and sound. Buy the movie DVD and the VideoRifftracs, put them in a computer with two DVD drives and let the program put them together. Not likely but we can dream.

^Not a bad idea, actually. A riff "track" of just the talking silhouettes that the user can combine with the DVD of the original movie. Would be difficult to pull off, though, because the movies were edited for MST3K and also featured commercial/host sequence breaks.

And the Green Slime was only a half hour pilot, not sure which part of the movie was used, probably the start.

I'm sure they could either get the computer to jump over the deleted scenes, or even better, get Joel, Mike et al. to riff in the skipped parts. Have both versions on the same disk. Would make the early KTMA eps more marketable.
