I did NOT get J. Elvis' email. And there was nothing in spam.
I didn't get it either. And I've gotten them previously.
You know, I've gotten about half of them. There must be something wrong with their email list...for those who haven't gotten it, here it is (a note: I'm assuming that Frankenstein is the other recorded episode based on the fact that they're performing it live, and we'd heard the 3rd in the series of eps. was an Italian Frank. film):
"The Email Club
Hi Everyone,
Hope your holiday season is chugging along joyously. Here at CT, our spirits are high due to the reception for our latest DVD, "SANTA CLAUS CONQUERS THE MARTIANS". For example...
Cory Doctorow at BoingBoing.net says:
Screw "It's a Wonderful Life," and to hell with the merely kitschy experience of watching "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" without commentary. It is only through the auspices of Cinematic Titanic that the holidays can truly be realized.
Brian Orndorf at DVD Talk reports:
Impressively avoiding callbacks to the "MST" version, the Titanic take on "Martians" is a triumph, with the crew taking advantage of the full, uncut version of the picture to brand their own comedic speed on the source material. Perhaps imbibing some eggnog around the writing room, the squad appears more casual and snappier, submitting a real velocity to the delivery of riffs, even tittering at each other's comedic shots over the course of the program. Beyond the laughs, there's a palpable sense of teamwork on this episode that prior efforts were often shy to display, with the cast members squeezing in a surprising percentage of stout one-liners.
Bill Gibron at PopMatters.com postulates:
Cinematic Titanic took a massive risk remaking this iconic installment, and that they succeeded so well speak volumes for their individual abilities and satiric skills. While it’s probably true that a trip back into one’s past is more problematic than therapeutic, this updated look at a piece of MST history is a retread well executed…and well worth it.
And how about that Nick Lyons at DVD Corner saying:
As “Mystery Science Theater 3000” fans know, “Santa Claus Conquers The Martians” was previously riffed on in season 3 of the series. Now, the “Cinematic Titanic” gang has wisely decided to re-riff the movie in time for the holiday season. As it turns out, the second time is a charm as the riffs here are even sharper and funnier than the “MST3K” episode.
Summary: For a “MST3K” or “Cinematic Titanic” fan, there is no better Christmas gift than this.
