I was thinking this might interesting to do if you included everything that's on you ipod/mp3 player "warts"/"guilty pleasures" and all. I for one am not ashamed of anything I like but at some time I have had stuff like ABBA or Journey on my mp3 player as well as stuff that is more critically acclaimed like Bob Dylan or Kraftwerk and more obscure stuff like The Residents or Emperor. You don't have to do this as detailed as me but I would say that if you don't have/believe in such things as mp3 players then your list might not be the random sampling I'm going for.Anyway right now here's the run down of what is on my 6GB mp3 player(all music)
10cc(1 song) Aimee Mann(35 songs) Alice Cooper(11 songs) Alice In Chains(28 songs) Beastie Boys(15 songs) Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five(56 songs) Billy Joel(20 songs) Black Flag(10 songs) Black Sabbath(20 songs) Blind Melon(21 songs) Blur (13 songs) Booker T. & The MG's(5 songs) Burt Bacharach(6 songs) Danzig(12 songs) David Bowie(11 songs) Death(5 songs) Death Cab For Cutie(12 songs) Depeche Mode(35 songs) Devo(15 songs) Dexy's Midnight Runners(1 song) Dinosaur Jr.(25 songs) Dio(9 songs) Doves(13 songs) Dream Theater(16 songs) Dwight Yoakam(13 songs) Electric Light Orchestra(1 song) Elton John(11 songs) Faith No More(17 songs) Fleetwood Mac(10 songs) Foo Fighters(25 songs) Frank Zappa(37 songs) Iron Maiden (8 songs) Jefferson Airplane(5 songs) Jellyfish(5 songs) Joe Satriani (13 songs) John Frusciante (18 songs) John Lennon (4 songs) Jon Brion(12 songs) Judas Priest(7 songs) King Diamond(12 songs) King's X(16 songs) Kiss (4 songs) Lamb Of God(22 songs) Led Zeppelin(3 songs) Man...or Astro-man(18 songs) Megadeth (15 songs) Metallica(19 songs) Motley Crue(14 songs) Mr. Bungle(15 songs) New Order(21 songs) Nine Inch Nails(14 songs) Oasis(10 songs) Ozzy Osbourne(16 songs) Paul McCartney/Wings(36 songs) Pavement (18 songs) Pearl Jam(11 songs) Phantom Planet(2 songs) Pink Floyd(24 songs) Pixies(28 songs) Queen(22 songs) Quiet Riot(6 songs) R.E.M.(25 songs) Radiohead(66 songs) Ramones (8 songs) Raspberries(4 songs) Red Hot Chili Peppers(31 songs) Rollins Band(3 songs) Rush (8 songs) Scars On Broadway(3 songs) Sebadoh/Lou Barlow(39 songs) Slayer(16 songs) Smashing Pumpkins(20 songs) Sonic Youth(6 songs) Soundgarden(2 songs) Spandau Ballet(1 song) Squirrel Nut Zippers(1 song) Styx(26 songs) Superdrag(58 songs) System Of A Down(41 songs) Talking Heads(23 songs) Tears For Fears(1 song) Tenacious D(16 songs) The Band(3 songs) The Beach Boys(7 songs) The Beatles(80 songs) The Black Crowes(6 songs) The Clash(7 songs) The Darkness(4 songs) The Flaming Lips(47 songs) The Hives(13 songs) The Jam(14 songs) The Mars Volta(14 songs) The Smithereens(1 song) The Smiths(24 songs) The Zombies(4 songs) They Might Be Giants(29 songs) Travis(8 songs) Van Halen(25 songs) Wilco(21 songs) Yngwie Malmsteen(22 songs)

I've only got a 1 gig one so I change the stuff about as my mood fits. At this point I'm on a total electronic binge so the list of artist is as follows:

I don't have one. When I travel via public transportation, I like to be aware of my surroundings.
Also, the "buds" can really cause hearing loss. My ears ring enough, I don't need any more.

I really dislike using the "buds". They just plain out hurt after a while of being in my ear holes. I use a $3 pair of folding headphones I got at Big Lots! I prefer to listen to the music on my mp3 player in whole cd's as opposed to individual tracks. Currently I am in the middle of "Factory Showroom" by They Might Be Giants. Bot over the weekend I did listen to Thin Lizzy's "Jailbreak" and Talking Heads' "Remain In Light"

I would do this, but I don't know how to make it a nice list like this =\ There's no such thing as a nice list. Except Santa's, of course. I beg to differ...yours for instance being that it's non-existent leaves a lot to be desired. And I have to say Krista's wins so far for it's randomness...don't get me wrong I understand the sentiment...that it doesn't mean too much but reading these lists is interesting to see how much ground is covered. And, in theory(if you're honest) it's cool to see people's"guilty pleasures" juxtaposed next to their general tastes. I also have to say I'm glad to see a couple of trends: No Britney Spears No Nickelback ...the world is a better place because of this...

I have some pretty weird stuff on my iPod due to an ethnomusicology course I took. I put it all on there so I could study wherever I felt like it. Good deal! Music is also my biggest hobby so I search out lots of odd groups, and I also have 120 GB so I don't take anything off. I figure I'm never going to fill it all up anyhow!

there's no way i could list everything i have. a little bit of everything from alternative, jazz, blues and world music. i don't know if it is me or the mp3 player (probably me), but i have accidentally deleted everything out of it twice when trying to delete just one cd, so i don't fool with it much anymore, in fear of angering it. i also hate the ear buds - they won't stay in properly and seem to be too big for my li'l ears.

I agree groupie. They start to hurt my ears after one CD or so. Those are the one they give you with the mp3 player because they know you will go out and buy a better pair.
