So, after watching a few of their releases, I'm still not sure what the premise behind CinTit is exactly. I think that they've kept it vague on purpose but I have a nagging feeling there's some bigger story that they haven't revealed yet.
For example, a quote from Joel in a recent interview:
So, anyone have any ideas of what the story is?

All I know is I have to put the nannotated disc in the time tube when I'm done.

Right, but why? (and what DOES nannotated mean, anyways?)
Why do they HAVE to? Who was that guy talking to them a the beginning of SCCtM? Etc.

Perhaps its "annotated," which means with critical or explanatory comments. Kinda like riffing.

I prefer to think of it as this.....rabid MST fans (led by myself) disappointed in the cancelation of the TV show and the collapse of the Film Crew have captured Joel and company to riff on bad movies until the day they die. You are mine forever! Mwahahahahaha!
Wait...that can't be right. Otherwise I wouldn't have let them reriff Santa Clause Conquers the Martians a second time.

Maybe there are warring factions seizing control of the CT crew - sometimes fans who wanted SCCtM are in charge, sometimes they're not. This will all be revealed a couple seasons down the road and make us question our very understanding of the "good guys" and the "bad guys".

That's genius.
I can just see Frank being "in tune" with the Time Tube, and every other episode Joel walks up to him with his arms lifted up and is mouth agap saying "What are you doing here, Frank?"

It is I who is in control of the Time Tube contents. So prepare yourself to be disappointed, again! Bwahahahaha... Uh, ha. I still list Cinematic Titanic as "Premise Unnecessary" unless they all are playing characters based on their own names, if those are indeed their real names. Seriously, two grown men named J Elvis and Trace?

Seriously, two grown men named J Elvis and Trace? Maybe it's like the old Abbot and Costello movies, where they always played different characters whose first names just happened to be "Bud" and "Lou".

Yeah, and I would haven demanded some more watchable movies! DK, if you want a real answer, it's that there is no premise and that Joel and the gang just throw a bone or two out to satisfy the fans who have been clamoring for a backstory. I really don't think there is a master or even minor plan going on here. So, actually yes a lot like LOST... ;D ... (oh no he didn't)

So, actually yes a lot like LOST... ;D ... (oh no he didn't)*gasp* Admitadley, the creators didn't have an overall backstory until they got a full season order midway through their first season. After that, they sat down and mapped every major plotpoint and mystery out. But, yeah, its easy to say that they make t up as they go along.

They're taking care of the movies while the Master is away.

Judging from the intros to each movie, someone has convinced the crew that something is going to cause the destruction of all recorded media, and lured them to a compound to start preserving these movies. The crew themselves don't have all the details and don't seem totally convinced - Josh even says it sounds "fakey" but backs off when their guide gets defensive. Now that they're in the compound they're probably not free to leave but the staff distracts them from that by giving them simulated cable tv and buffet dinners.
