I think I may have killed Victoria, my laptop. Something's up with the power cord (one of the many reasons I will never buy another Gateway again), and it's not registering that the power cord is plugged in, even though it is. I know I've been hard on laptops in the past, but I have been so beyond gentle with this one. This sucks. I'm going to try to pop in as often as I can on the family laptop, but who knows when I'll get mine fixed... Is it wrong to hope for a stimulus check, now that it'll help me buy a new laptop*, should I need one, even though I've fought against the stupid bill ever since I first heard about it? *If I do end up getting a new laptop, it will, like Victoria and Katherine the iPod, be named for an English queen. I'll be taking suggestions later on, even though I know you all will be suggesting something like Æthelflæd of Damerham...

Really? Because my parents' computer and my sister's computer are both Acers, and they're both really happy with their computers.
And I'm definitely in the market for a new laptop, because I talked to a Gateway rep, and they think it's the DC port, and the local computer repair shop "doesn't recommend" fixing DC ports, because it "doesn't hold."

I've had my HP for almost three years. Carry it every day. Like ham, I love it!

I know I've been kind of lagging in posting updates, but I haven't been on the computer very much recently - I'm not a fan of how dad's got his computer set up. (And it's slow - he could do with another gig of memory.)
Anyway, I've been kind of sitting on this riffing project for a while now, and I've decided that it just might be time to get it rolling (especially since a mid-summer release would be appropriate, like when Independence Day came out on July 4. Actually, July 4 is what I'm aiming at...)
Anyway, I really need to amp up the number of riffs, as right now, whole scenes are without a riffer's touch, and I'm wondering if any of you comic geniuses would be interested in helping out... also, if/when it gets to iRiff stage, I'll need a second voice...

This must be the year of the concert/live show. First, CT in San Francisco. Now, the Newsboys, my favorite Christian band, is coming to my hometown. I am so beyond happy. Right now I'm the only one in my family going, but hopefully someone else will join me, even though I'm totally up for going by myself. (And before you think that I've stopped my quirky little post naming scheme, "Woo Hoo" is the name of a Newsboys song.)
Also, I've been spending a lot of time stringing tiny little beads for my aunt, who is knitting me a sweater, which has about a million beads in the trim, and I've been helping by stringing the beads so she can knit the beading cord together with the yarn. Was over at Aunt Armine's last night, and I got my favorite hoodie back, which I thought was lost, and got help from Uncle Hrayr on my taxes, which I had tried to do myself and thought I owed $300 (now I'll be getting $21 in refunds!).
I am loving my new laptop, which still doesn't have a name (the old one was Victoria), but the touchpad is going a little schizo on me, all of a sudden deciding that it isn't going to respond when I try to move the mouse. Any ideas on how to fix it? (I don't think it's the driver.)

They did a fun version of "In the Belly of the Whale" for the VeggieTales' movie Jonah. Also, I've been spending a lot of time stringing tiny little beads for my aunt, who is knitting me a sweater, which has about a million beads in the trim, and I've been helping by stringing the beads so she can knit the beading cord together with the yarn. Do you use a beading needle? They're really handy for stringing beads. I only discovered them after I strung about a gazillion tiny beads for a bracelet I crocheted for my daughter a year or two ago. Just a piece of slender flexible wire, folded in half and twisted into a needle-like shape. Was over at Aunt Armine's last night, and I got my favorite hoodie back, which I thought was lost, and got help from Uncle Hrayr on my taxes, which I had tried to do myself and thought I owed $300 (now I'll be getting $21 in refunds!). Armine and Hrayr? Your relatives have the coolest names.

Yeah, I've been using a beading needle. Never used one before this, but they're insanely handy, since these are seed beads (I usually use bigger glass beads). I just sort of dig the needle into the bowl and let the needle pick up however many it can. It's really fast once I get into a groove.
Armine and Hrayr are Armenian, so of course they have awesome names (that are kinda hard to pronounce at first - Hrayr is like her-eye, and Armine is like arm-in-ay). They're actually not blood relatives, but Armine is my mom's best friend, and she adopted my mom as the big sister she never had, so she became "Auntie Armine," and "Uncle Hrayr" loves hanging out with my dad, and their daughter Tahleen benefits because she only has big brothers (who have moved out long ago), and so my sisters and I are now this sort of sister/cousin/friend hybrid. But because it's long to say "my mom's best friend that treats us all like family so I call her my aunt," I just say "Auntie Armine" or "my aunt." It's all good. I'm actually closer to her than I am to my own blood relative aunts. It helps that she actually lives in the same town as me (and understands me better).

Hmm, you're right, I would not have guessed those pronunciations. I bet when he fills out forms and such, Hrayr is constantly "corrected" to Harry by helpful secretaries, officials and bureaucrats.

Hrayr works at my church, and one day I was subbing for the regular receptionist (aka my mom), and someone called for "...um, Harry?"But I pretty much know that anytime nobody is sure how to pronounce the name of the person they're calling for, it's usually for him (considering that the rest of the church staff is Bobby, Joel, John, Jeff, and we have 2 Ricks and 6 Scotts...).

This is day 88. Tonight's feature is #308, Gamera vs. Gaos. I had originally thought that it would be nice to get a season in during each month, but being out of a computer for the better part of a month put me behind.
Also, I've been kind of putting my nightly episodes off for a while just because I've been bored with it. Maybe the badness of these movies is getting to me. I'll have to pay attention to if/how this malaise continues. I fear that I will become an unintended victim of Doctor Forrester's plan and I will go crazy instead of Joel. I know I just said I wanted to see more early episodes, but it kind of morphed into a quest to see every episode of the show, and now I feel like it's a duty/chore. Now I know how the crew of the SOL feels. Or Mike with his chronic headaches.
In closing, Sandy Frank can kiss my cute little denim-clad butt.

Newsboys I own Take Me To Your Leader, loved that album, especially "Lost the Plot", great production by... oh now I forgot his name. He's a genius though... didn't they lose a memeber shortly after the release of that one... I seem to remember they had one less bald guy on the next album (but my memory might be fuzzy on that too)
Oh what a great couple of years for Christian albums (for me at least), DC Talk put out Jesus Freak, Rebecca St. James had a couple of gems, Miss Angie had one great album...

John James left somewhere between Take Me To Your Leader and Step Up to the Microphone. Peter Furler became the lead singer after that, although he recently stepped down and has been replaced by Michael Tait, formerly of DC Talk (and a fellow Liberty University alum!)

Just thought I'd pass on to you a couple of quick prayer requests, for anyone so inclined (this also comprises most of the non-minutiae that's been going on in the family of late)...
My grandpa has been having serious health issues since at least 2005, mostly centered around his kidneys, although he also had two somewhere-between-mini-strokes-and-real strokes in late 2007. (I've mentioned him around here once or twice.) However, in the last year, he had improved by leaps and bounds, and as of Christmas, he'd been put back onto the transplant list, even though we figured his strokes kept him off for good. Anyway, he's been called by the hospital in San Francisco that does the transplants and told to "stay close," because he's right near the top of the list. The downer is that now someone - that is a match to Grandpa - needs to die so Grandpa can get the kidney. I'm choosing to pray for a Christian donor so a soul isn't lost to save Grandpa's life.
Second, another relative on that side of the family - she's informed us she wants this kept on the down low - has been diagnosed with serious cancer. She's on Round 2 of chemo by pill right now, but this particular cancer is nearly impossible to operate on, so I'm really praying that she makes it okay. (She's my uncle's fiancee, and completely awesome, though I feel like I haven't had a chance to get to know her, being away at college and all.)
I know this is a bit of a downer, and that these are really big prayer requests, but I believe that God specializes in pulling off big things - and loves to show off - so I know that these are completely within his power to pull off. (I'm also stepping out in faith and making their wedding gift anyway.)

Just wanted to share with you an amazing answer to prayer! My grandpa, the one mentioned in the previous post, called us on Thursday to let us know he was headed to the hospital, and he would be receiving a kidney on Friday! The surgery went well, and the kidney is already starting to work. We still have to wait to see if his body will reject it, and there are reports of that happening even after a year. But for now, we're extremely happy over here, and God continues to show me that nothing is too big for Him to do. "What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows." - Luke 12:6-7 And, since the professional opinion is that Grandpa could have as many as another ten years, I now have that long to get married. He is a retired Baptist pastor, and married all four of his children, and I would love to have him do my wedding, too. Now all I need to do is start dating... Also, if you'd like to hear what I've been up to recently (I was sick for a while and didn't feel like blogging anywhere), the massive update is here.
