Avery sucks. He deserved to get suspended for trash talking in the media. Then someone needs to clean his clock when he returns. He is a no-talent loudmouth.

CRAZY news in Caniac-land today! We have FIRED Coach Peter Laviolette (I kinda saw this coming, though I hate to see him go).... But that's not the crazy part.... ......we have RE-HIRED PAUL MAURICE. Of ALL people!? The very same guy who had the VERY same problem Coach Lavalamp got fired for, only without winning a Stanley Cup and doing it in the most boring way possible. The only good news out of this: 1) Ron Francis has been hired as 'associate coach'. Hopefully "associate" is code-name for "future" or something. 2) GM Jim Rutherford has stated that Maurice will coach the rest of the season, and then "decisions will be made as to the future coaching position" or something like that. So at least this MAY not be a long-term solution. But STILL...... ......I don't know, it just seems like we're already throwing this season away, with only 25 games played so far. I don't know what to think about this, but I know I'm not alone in the baffled/kinda-angry department as far as 'Cane fans go.

I hate to see Laviolette go too. The team certainly seems to be underachieving and I guess you can't fire the army.
Maurice might be a temporary thing. And I agree the style under him was boring. I liked the current style. Just not the results. So you are definitely not alone in Caniac-land, let alone MST Discussion Board- land. I'm right with you.

My bro-in-law (lately a handy guy) snagged more free tickets to tomorrow's Canes game. So I'm going to make the 3 1/2 hour drive each way to take it in. I almost hate to go the way they've played of late but these will be the best seats I've ever had. If anyone cares to look, it is section 105, row p. www.seats3d.com/nhl/carolina_hurricanes/?&pn=p_105_3

I totally agree with this, but why is it that the Stars seem surprised? They knew what kind of a guy he was to begin with and that he's probably one of the most hated guys in hockey(just my opinion). And anyway what does this have to do with the game, anyway? I wish they would have let him play against Calgary so Pheneuf would have killed him on the ice. ;D

That's probably why they suspended him; they didn't want another Bertuzzi-Moore incident. Also, sloppy seconds does not deserve six games. When dirty hits get fewer games than off ice words, something is wrong. Sky, these Flyers/Canes games will be the death of me. Too much overtime... at least we won tonight

... Also, sloppy seconds does not deserve six games. When dirty hits get fewer games than off ice words, something is wrong... Agreed. I find it interesting how much his teammates don't like him. The Pens are so injury ridden it's ridiculous. And I knew trading Conklin away was a horrible mistake. Fleury can't stay healthy... ugh.

Sheesh... Canes lose to the Flyers after being up 5-1 in the third. I'm not sure I've ever seen that happen before. What a collapse.

So my Islanders are once again in the Eastern Conference basement, and DiPietro's hurt. Why do we suck so much again? They have zero offense. I seriously think there's a curse on the team, how could we have so much bad luck for so long? And I'm going to agree with everyone else and say that Avery sucks. I want to punch him in the face everytime I see him.

That was an unbelievable game last night, Sky. My number one question for Paul Maurice is why Tuomo Ruutu and Rod Brind'amour went before Eric Staal in the shootout? Also, what's your opinion on the Walker hit on Alberts that changed the whole game around?
Miss Pierre, what's this I hear about MAF starting tomorrow? I certainly hope the good Flyers show up to the game. This two-faced team is giving me fits....
EDIT: Glowgirl, I think the problem stems from firing Ted Nolan, although I don't follow the Isles whatsoever.

EDIT: Glowgirl, I think the problem stems from firing Ted Nolan, although I don't follow the Isles whatsoever. Did Ted Nolan do something to get him practically blacklisted from the NHL? I liked him as a coach, and was really mad when they fired him. I need to do a count because I think in the past 10 years, we've gone through about 6 coaches. Or at least it feels that way. For a minute I thought you meant all their problems start from there LOL. No, this has been going on since like the mid-90s. It's a combination of bad management, poor ownership, impatience with young players, injuries, stars not reaching their potential, overpriced concessions, a small (but devout!) fanbase, high ticket prices...I could go on forever, but I'll spare you all hhahahaha. And yeah, I'll let you go for celebrating the Flyers win lol. I was actually happy a couple of weeks ago when we lost to the Pens, because the Pens' goalie got his first win, and he was my college's goalie for four years. EDIT: Laviolette's gone from the Hurricanes? He should have NEVER been fired from the Islanders. NEVER NEVER NEVER. The rumor here was Peca didn't like him and turned the majority of the team against him. And then Peca got traded. He was another mistake.

Same story for the Pens this year, as witnessed today. I miss Conklin. Flyers have at least turned it around from the very beginning of this year! The Pens blogger I read says the Flyers drown puppies! It's a joke that the Flyers are so mean and nasty they drown puppies. community.post-gazette.com/blogs/emptynetters/archive/2008/12/12/about-the-flyers-12-13-08.aspxI didn't watch the game today but it sounds like the Pens didn't bring it and the Flyers' PK is awesome. Pens need to get their arses in gear!

Also, what's your opinion on the Walker hit on Alberts that changed the whole game around?... I should have checked back sooner. I've totally forgotten the Walker hit by now. As far as Maurice goes, I have no idea why he chose those players. Why not Ray Whitney instead of Roddy? I'm afraid Rod's best days are long over. Ruutu deserves whatever he can get. He has the most heart of anyone on the team. Maurice is in a "can't win" situation. Other than the fact that he gets paid. I'm going to tomorrow night's game against the Canadians. Probably my last for quite awhile.

Good luck tomorrow, sky. I will be seeing Atari's Avs in person tomorrow night.
Seeing the Isle's situation really makes me feel fortunate to have Ed Snider owning the Flyers.
As far as the Pens game is concerned, the Penguins PK was really the game changer. They hurt themselves early by being too aggressive and hurt themselves late be being too passive. I know it sounds weird, but watching the videos it makes sense... I swear. I hope the Flyers keep up this pace before their patented February slump.
Yay hockey talk! We need more. MOAR I SAY
