Here in the UK, nearly all TV channels except the BBC have ads. The BBC gets some percentage of our TV license fees which is why (I'm guessing) they don't have/need ad breaks. As far as I know, as long as you watch TV here you have to pay the license fee. So yep, Monty Python was on the BBC, and anything made especially for those channels will be nearly thirty minutes long. Ah, thank you. That explains a lot. Thanks for the information!

I see this is the thread to go to for help identifying a TV show. I actually have two things, but I'll go with this first, and if you guys can help with this, I know you can help with the other show.
There was a show in late 80s, early 90s, was probably filmed in Canada (had a certain look/feel to it) and may have either been on WGN Chicago (hence why I'd see it all the way down here in Georgia) or PBS. The premise was that Sherlock Holmes wanted to make a companion for himself (can't remember why), someone as smart as he is, and instead of taking the time to date someone, he uses some undisclosed means of replicating himself. The results were a success...sort of. Instead of making an exact replica, he makes a Mini-Me Sherlock (who was also a puppet, but that's not mentioned in the context of the story). Sherlock boxes him up, and years later, Mini-Sherlock is discovered by kids who like to solve things, so he helps them do it.
It's not like I have great memories of the show or want to reconnect with my youth on this, it's more like people don't believe me when I say this existed. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm feel sorry that amongst your first posts there is no answer to your question.
I've tried doing some keyword searches, but I forced to say there is no evidence of such a show existing. Sorry.

If I could easily find an applause emoticon, I would! AMAZING, good sir, AMAZING!!! I completely forgot about the dog being a puppet too!
Only 10 episodes, huh? Dang, as a kid you think 10 episodes is long! I may try to find some youtube footage or something when I get home just to reminisce a bit...before I replay some MST3K for proper good television.
Somehow I knew this would be the place I could come to for help.

No problem, I enjoy a little Internet research. Most of the stuff I found about it was from people like you. They had a vague memory of the show from their childhood and wanted to know more about it.

I hope you don't think ill of me for bringing up another inquiry so soon after the last one. In a way, that last one was a test for this one, as while I knew the previous inquiry was some kind of series, as far as I know this next entry is some stand alone short film that I only ever saw once, but it made such an impression and I'd LOVE to watch it again.
The plot is that there is a new experimental flight program that some company is making...most likely contracted by the government and headed by a woman. The pilot is one of those chiseled-chin hunky types. If I remember correctly, the plane is to be controlled remotely by the pilot in a flight simulator (all the "flight footage" is simulator footage, obviously lending to the low budget) and he must take out several remote targets. I'm guessing the purpose is to keep the pilots safe yet still able to lend their non-programmable instinct into flying.
Meanwhile, your typical 1990s 20-something slacker-hacker has been playing video games, but is bored by his games and is looking for something new. Through his hacking skills, he comes across the program for one of the remote units to be taken down. Naturally, hilarious dog-fights ensue while the program lead shouts out for people to find out what's happening with the rogue unit. In the end, the pilot defeats the hacker-slacker (barely), but unfortunately the test plane runs out of gas right above the headquarters where the test pilot and programmers are, thus the joke that it really ISN'T safe for the pilots, and we have the hilarious wacked out hair, smokey complexion, and disheveled clothing of someone caught in a cartoonish explosion.
Epilogue: the pilot is preparing for the next test flight, almost pitch perfect as before, but is surprised to see the new program head is the kid he had a dog fight with, whose laxidaksical attitude is in stark contrast to the previous head (plus I don't think the pilot will consider hitting on this one).
So, any clues? Also, any links to where I could watch it? Oh, last bit of clue I can think of: it might have been on Sci-Fi Channel (VERY early Sci-Fi Channel) or USA Network

Did Joel Hodgson ever guest star on an old Nickelodeon TV show called "Out of Control"? It was Nickelodeon's first self-produced show (1983 or 1984) and starred Dave Coulier in his pre-Full House days as the host of a talk show parody. It didn't last all that long (less than a year I think) and had a lot of comedians guest starring.
One that stuck out in my mind was that of a sleepy-sounding "failed magician/inventor" who had a hard time finding confidence, and Dave had to convince him to stick with it. One of his inventions had him placing a modified janitor's bucket on his head, then turning the crank and peeling his face off (which looked suspiciously like a slice of bologna with facial features cut out). YEARS later, on Turkey Day 94, when I'm first introduced to MST3K, I notice one of the hosts seems to be that sleepy-eyed guy from Out of Control!
I've scoured YouTube for clips of Out of Control from this episode, and so far no luck. Anyone know of this show, that episode, and hopefully can not only confirm or deny what I saw, but hopefully even have a clip or the full episode? Even better, if Joel was on the show, does he remember it?

I dunno about that one. check IMDB my friend Dave C. was on it but it doesn't ring a bell to me. but I looked on you tube and it's on there. though we had cable for that short (1984-1985) series on Nick. I don't remember it I was prolly to busy watching you can't do that on television. damn I still love that show. by the set of it from the few seconds I saw of it, it looked like they were trying to copy it. I dunno what pilot you were asking about though. and no Joel wasn't on this NIck show.

According to the Muppet Wiki site his first appearance was in 1970. I definitely remember seeing him a lot on the show when I was growing up in the 70's.

There's a Christmas episode of Frasier that I'm trying to find.
Frasier and Roz end up pulling a second shift on Christmas or Christmas Eve, hoping that callers might share stories of Christmas cheer. One caller chimes in on how his gym sneakers fell from his car and were picked up by a homeless man. The caller remarks that he decided to let the man keep the sneakers. Frasier jests that they may very well have gotten Santa himself on the air. As the night progresses, the stories get more and more depressing and Roz is even put to tears.
Later, Frasier goes to a diner where he actually meets the homeless man that found the gym sneakers.
Does anybody know the episode name / season of the episode I'm talking about? Thanks!

From what I've been able to gather it sounds like the episode is "Miracle on Third or Fourth Street", which aired in the First Season.
