Yeah, that opening surprised me. I didn't know who did the song but I guessed it was some current, flavor of the month act. The song sucked but it was cool to see them try something different.

did anyone else watch saturday night live? i couldn't miss seeing betty white as the host. she was INCREDIBLE. she was in almost every skit they did and kept up like the pro she is. she was so funny - i think my favorite was the NPR sketch. it was very moving to see her at the end, when she thanked everyone. they gave her flowers and a standing ovation and she was clearly moved by it. i rarely watch SNL anymore, but i'm glad i caught this one.

Betty White rocked. Best host they've had in years.

I thought she did a great job. The NPR sketch was hilarious. I also liked the digital short, but I always do. It saves the entire show some nights.

Season 9 finale of Smallville.
Glimpses of the red and blue, plus Clark finally figures out what his destiny is after 9 years of whining and pining. A far better finale than last years. Hell, I'd say it was the best finale since season 2's. May be the best finale to date. Cliffhanger was epic, too.
After the way the built things up, next season has to be the last (the series declining ratings and yet, renewal anyway seems to confirm this). I hope they go out with a band. Finale aside, season 9 was quite middle of the road. I missed a few episodes though, including the praised Absolute Justice, because the opening episodes bored the hell out of me. I'll catch up with them on DVD, though.
I hope Michael Rosenbaum comes back to bring a justifyable end to Lex Luthor's character on the show. I think he's below average in the role, myself, but it would be a shame for him to go 7 years, walk off, and never look back. Perry White must come back, too. I want the Daily Planet editor to be a series regular! Still waiting for the fate of Chloe, I was so sure this episode would be it for her, and then they went and killed Tess instead.
Wishful thinking for the series finale: I'd like to see Tom Welling in the red and blue flying over planet Earth, looking into the camera and giving a big smile, just like Christopher Reeve. That would make this overlong series worthwhile.

"Ultraman", the original. Just a whole lotta fun. Westerners don't know how huge this became in Asia, as it spawned over 40 years of sequels and launched the whole superhero genre in Japan. Ultraman really is as big there as Superman and Mickey Mouse are here.
I also bought several short half-hour feature films for recent Sentai (Power Rangers) shows. Nothing serious, but some are goofier than others.

I got the cheap-o new DVD release of the original Ultraman at the end of last year and have been watching episodes here and there for the last several months. It's awesome!

Fringe Season Finale You ever stick with a so/so show? For all it’s flaws in its first season I stayed with it, maybe it was Walter Bishop, the mans a hoot and while Olivia (who always looks gassy to me, like she’s holding it in uncomfortably until she can find some place to be alone and let it loose) is the shows lead, Walter and actor John Nobel is its rock, its heart.
Season 2 started off slowly, season 1 DVD sales were poor and there was talk of Fringe getting the ax. But then something strange happened, it started to click. The rough patches smoothed themselves out and the show hit its stride with one great episode after another. People took notice, ratings began to climb and the show was renewed for a 3rd season. Yay!
Sometimes with a series like this, I find the questions more thrilling than than the answer itself. And while that was true to some extent here, the 2 part finale was a trip and opened the door for more intrigue and action next year.
Online fans are a buzz about the switcharoo ending, buuut –and maybe I’m reaching- I think they just might be pulling a double switcheroo. I think there’s another surprise in store for us concerning Olivia (maybe not, but it would be cool). At the heart was John Nobel as both Walter’s – one is scheming and confident, the other vulnerable and unsure… that JN pulls this off believably is a testament to his skills as an actor.
The best part for me was that finally William Bell and Walter meet face to face in the here and now. The scenes between Leonard Nimoy as Bell and Nobel were simply great. That this might be Nimoy’s final performance… well, he went out on top. Fine work Leonard *standing ovation*
