Doubt This one really grabbed me, though it left a lot of unanswered questions. And Streep got an Oscar nom for this - really? It was very much a "look at me, I'm ACTING!" performance (and not in a good, Charles Laughton way). It was more a caricature rather than a full flesh and blood human being she put on screen.

"Battle in Outer Space", a Toho space opus from 1959. Excellent miniature work, nice score, and Yoshio Tsuchiya is in fine form as an astronaut under the attacking aliens' control, but the brief shot of the aliens themselves... meh. This is my old VHS bootleg, I think it will get a legit subtitled release later this year. Also one of my favorites. Last year I got a 2 DVD set of this; one DVD is the standard English dub (meh) and the other is the Japanese with English subtitles which is outstanding. So colorful and cheerful - listen for the "japanese army march" during the "alien flying saucers vs. the earth moon buggies" shoot-out on the moon - this track is straight from Godzilla 1954.

Godzilla vs the Sea Monster. Non Mst3k of course. Holy God they cut alot from this film to make the MST version. The dubbing is also Very different. The lines and actors voices have been changed. Also on the DVD I watched the film quality is nearly flawless. As A lover of bad movies this one really is not that bad. 8/10 stars. Remember: they had the Sandy Frank versions of the films. Sandy Frank was in for the Gamera movies. For Godzilla vs The Sea Monster. It was the Film Ventures International version that was played.

I really liked this film a lot too, and liked that it left so many things ambiguous. And while Phillip Seymour Hoffman was GREAT in it (as he is in pretty much anything), I agree with you about the Streep-Meister. Way over the top, IMHO.

Yes, and it was recycled again as the theme to "Godzilla vs. Monster Zero". Maestro Ifukube had a way of recycling himself, but his music was so awesome I don't care. Just finished "The Human Vapor". This is Toho's twist on "The Phantom of the Opera" -- a man with the ability to assume gaseous form robs banks to finance his favorite actress's return to the stage. It's more about the story and characters than the effects, and Yoshio Tsuchiya, again, is excellent in the title role.

Willow. Never saw it upon original release, it was fine, good for families, and so I don't understand the MST insults of it now.
The second Jurassic Park movie, whatever it was called. I generally hate blockblusters. I hate Spielberg movies. I hate Crichton. I loathed the first film in the franchise. Thus,l I had zero expectations for this. But ya know, it wasn't awful. I so expected it to be awful, I ended up thinking it was entirely adequate. It may not be--you know how high expectations can make an okay movie seem awful and no expectations can make an okay movie seem good. So maybe it's only marginally awful. Anyway, I did watch through to the end, which I did not with the first movie in the franchise.
Based on the positive experience with Bergman's Wild Strawberries, Smiles of a Summer Night (Sommarnattens leende), a sort of French bedroom farce (a Swedish bedroom farce?) Okay, not brilliant, not very layered/deep. I do like his taste in women--and because we're talking about the 50's, they're like size 10 women instead of today's painfully skinny actresses, who I find horrific to look at. I didn't laugh at all, and it's supposed to be a comedy...while I did laugh aloud during Wild Strawberries.
King of Kong: etc. Riveting, surprisingly so, because it's about a bunch of loser guys in middle age who think video gaming is so important it will get them "girls" (er, shouldn't they be wanting women by now--I think girls are kinda illegal for those 40 year olds) and so important that they should cheat to protect records that ain't still records. With a clear good guy schmuck and clear bad guys in conspiracy, this film really drew me in.

Crank: High Voltage
Sucked...............ass. Jason Statham's worst movie yet. Even worse than Transporter 2 and In the Name of the King.
Still, that asian hooker cracked me up. It just might be worth purchasing for her alone.
4/10

Leviathan
A completely blatant ripoff of The Thing and Alien, only...UNDERWATER[/i]. Still, though, it's a fun completely blatant ripoff.

The Haunting In Connecticut. A really good horror movie. A family moves into a former funeral home to be close to the hospital where the oldest son is getting cancer treatment. Once they move in, the boy starts seeing things and all hell breaks loose. Some really scary moments where I jumped more than once. Highly recommended.

I bought that solely based on word-of- mouthinternet, and it was very good, aside from a couple of goofy/cheesy moments. Not your typical modern vampire film at all.

I watched and reviewed another 3 supermen movie, this one was an Italian co-production with the Shawn Brothers, with fights choreographed by a very young Jackie Chan The 3 Supermen Against the Orient

Danger: Diabolik - without MST.
I've wanted to watch this one in its entirety for a long time. I really enjoyed it. Yes, it's cheesy. And as Crow said, Diabolik "operates on unbelievable luck and coincidence." But it's still a lot of fun to watch.
The DVD has some nice extras, too. The commentary with John Phillip Law and Tim Lucas is interesting. Law has some great stories about the filming, and Lucas is full of information about Bava's tricks and techniques. Another great extra was a Beastie Boys video that was inspired by the movie. I enjoyed that, even though I'm not a Beastie Boys fan. Definitely worth checking out.

"Mothra". Old school Toho awesomeness. Great special effects, great story, great performances. Having met four actors who were in this, I also get sentimental value.
God, I love cute twins.

Pulse. The Japanese version of this horror movie about ghosts coming through our technology is really creepy. If you don't mind reading subtitles, you'll enjoy this. I jumped a few times. Highly recommended.
