Thank you! I watched some clips on YouTube after reading this thread yesterday. I found my all time favorite. The Half Wits game show. "Pick a number between 1 and 10!" "Twelve." "Pick a number between 1 and 10!" "Oh, I was going to say twelve too!" "Pick a number, any number!" "Yeah, I was going to pick 12." "Pick a number between 1 and 10!" "Oh, okay. You're gonna have to refresh my memory, Alex. What numbers have already been taken?"

^Yes! Nine to ten years ago NBC showed SCTV late at night and I'd watch it during summer vacation. Yeah, this is what Vol II is...the NBC episodes. Meh. I've just finished watching them, and while the flavor of the show is there, the edge is missing. I don't know what it is/was about this series done for NBC, but I didn't like 'em. They were packaged, and padded way beyond the need. Elaborate opening credits, multiple commercial bumpers, and cheesy 'special guests', who are worked into the skits, and made me jump for the FF button every time. The only time I got hopeful was when they announced, "Tonight, 'Talking Heads'"...turned out to be the Once in a Lifetime video. Oh, and a Great White North every episode. Don't get me wrong, I love me some MacKenzie Bros, but part of their mystique was the sparsity with which they were done. Oh, yeah, and way too lean on Edith Prickley. The best SCTV episodes are the 30 min ones that were shown in syndication prior to them being 'discovered' and marketed. If anyone here has the other SHOUT! Factory sets, I'd sure like to know if those are on there. Oh, and Eugene Levy is Brilliant!.

Back in the day, I worshiped SCTV, it was the center of my comedy universe, and for me also, it's the only show that stacks up to MST. Both shows had cheap sets but comic brilliance. I'm in the camp that prefers the early 30 minute shows, although the Network 90 seasons had some outstanding eps, like when the Russian network took over the airwaves. Could have done without the musical guests, but the one where The Tubes go on a trip with the Fishin' Musician was a classic. Nice to know the MST guys were also fans.

What a great show this was. Extremely well written and preformed show that didn't really go for the gross out or cheep joke, and that is rare. I aways have to laugh at NBC, this show at the time was the best on TV by a mile yet they stick it on a Friday Night at 12:30 to 2:00, what a joke. AS for the volumes out now my favorite is vol. 4. Yes they had a depleted cast at that time but to me it's hilarious. That has my favorite episode ever "Midnight Cowboy II". I know that this show was a big show with comedians and has had a lot of influence. I have Ben Stiller Show and on one of his commentaries he when on and on how much he loved that show. I thought that was kind of cool.
