I know it is probably more cost effective to release the live shows only, but I have to agree with a lot of the people here. A live DVD just can't beat a perfect studio DVD. Maybe they can add a fan reaction track as a bonus, much like the way it was done on The Rocky Horror Picture Show DVD, to give the home viewer a slice of what it was like to see the movie live with audience participation. Think about it...won't you.

Guess I throw my two cents in and say I probably wouldn't bother with live DVDs either. As far as I'm concerned the only positive of the live shows is being a part of the group experience and seeing the performers, well, live. If I'm by myself in my office or living room I want to enjoy the actual content, not pretend I'm in a concert hall or something.
And I don't really think the comparisons to other stand-up acts quite works. A stand-up comedian is able to react to the crowd, pause before his next joke as long as it takes for the crowd noise to quiet. He doesn't have a movie that's going to keep running regardless, forcing him into a pace other than he or the audience dictates.
I get that the Titans probably enjoy the live shows 100x more than grinding it out by themselves in the studio, but what's most fun to perform isn't always what's most fun to watch. And as someone who is probably at least a six-hour drive from anywhere they'll ever consider doing a live show, if they abandon studio DVDs there probably won't be much there left for me.

He [or she] doesn't have a movie that's going to keep running regardless, forcing him into a pace other than he or the audience dictates. I agree with this totally. The Titans' movie-riffing performance has to be timed out fairly strictly, and live comedy shows don't lend themselves to that kind of precision. There were several times at the Chicago shows when the crowd noise was actually a (minor) drawback. Laughter drowned out the movie's soundtrack to the point that I didn't get the point of some of the Titans' riffs. Not to mention being unable to hear some of the Titans' riffs, particularly Trace's. It was more of a distraction during the Saturday show. A couple of rows behind my husband and me, there were a few people (members of this board for all I know) who had very loud, distinctive laughs. And, bless them, they tended to laugh louder and longer and more often than anyone else in the audience. It wasn't terribly annoying, by any means. Like I said earlier, it was a minor drawback. But it's also not something I'd care to have on DVD.

My comment about live performances extended beyong comedy... live music as well. Considering both, my point was that with todays tech putting together a proper mix so that jokes wouldn't be drowned out wouldn't be an impossible hurdle.
Plus we are distratced by the laughter because we are in the middle of it, whereas with a live DVD mics would be focused not in the audience, but the film and performers.
I prefer the studio releases, but I still beleive a live DVD wouldn't be the horror show (apart from the movie lol) that some are making it out to be. We'd hear all the jokes.

Considering both, my point was that with todays tech putting together a proper mix so that jokes wouldn't be drowned out wouldn't be an impossible hurdle. So how would a live CT show be edited? Live music and stand up DVDs use multiple cameras and are edited with master shots and close ups and crowd shots etc. With CT you need to watch the movie to get the jokes. The movie is the set up and the riffer delivers the punch line. Are they going to show the movie (and video taped projection looks like crap no matter what) and then cut to a riffer? That would be awful to try to follow the movie.

No you just show it, no need to cut anything or to have multiple camera angles, (unless you're adding the opening acts). It would be like watching a Rifftrax movie. You see the picture, you hear the jokes. I don't know if they would do any kind of shadowrama, at the show I was at they would have been off screen. I don't know why you'd want to make it anymore complicated than that. I think they are thinking of this as quick and easy way to get these out. No need to go to the studio, just film it live and send it out. Easy peezy lemon squeezy. It's an option they are looking at, that doesn't mean it will happen, or if it would be any cheaper to do this.

A live release wouldn't be a disaster, per se. It could be "tastefully" filmed, with proper audio so the movie and performers could all be heard. It's the atmosphere of the live show that couldn't be captured on film.
Sitting in a room with 500 MSTies who 'get it', watching your heros sing through an opening skit, or just stand there as they get a standing ovation; there's a sort of magic knowing that you aren't just watching it happen on tv in your living room... you're helping make it happen. You're there, experiencing it firsthand. I don't want to buy a dvd so I can watch someone else experience it firsthand, I'd rather be there myself. Taking away the audience and that missing element, and all that's left is the film and performers. And if that's all you've got, why not put it on a sound stage and clean it up, and add something, like a premise, that they couldn't have at the live show.
Basically, if you're going to watch a live show, be at the live show. Otherwise, the studio version is the best choice.

I honestly don't know the genesis of this rumor, unless it's the fact that the Titans are doing a lot of touring. The live shows are truly a blast and very much a part of the experience. I love each and every one.
But we're still filming, guys. A studio and everything. If that changes I'll be the first to let you know.
