Yeah but what are we going to talk about now? I got it... no more live shows. Studio DVDs only. That's what RAD meant. LOL... Nicely played, Gary! RAD

RAD Actually, the cast is going to try an experiment with a new format because they need a break. The next ten shows: ALL RAD! ALL THE TIME! Just one well-dressed southern gentlemen offering pithy bon-mots about slasher flicks while sipping cognac.

Just make sure your tickets aren't for the balcony or something, or you'll miss all the action!

Whoo, hot antlion action! Actually, RAD will take us all geo-caching in the wilds... and then leave us there.

I honestly don't know the genesis of this rumor, ... From the interview with Joel that is linked in the first post of this thread.: Was adding the live show, then, something really foreign to you and the cast? Well, we all met doing stand up, and doing it live, you bring your personality. We're not really playing characters anymore. But doing it live has really changed us. It's very peculiar. We're writing our ninth movie now since we started, and we're toying with whether we should be doing studio shows anymore: Should we be doing just live shows and recording [them]? It's really interesting. It gave us the identity we needed in a weird way.

I guess I understand what he's saying and why they're toying with the idea, but i 'd really miss the studio DVDs, mainly cause it feels so much like MST3K. It would feel odd with a live audience and seems like there would probably be some loss in quality of the picture... though with most of these movies, I doubt you'd notice.

Looks like this was not a rumor after reading Joel's new blog entry.
"Because of this that we’ve decided not to record our last three live features (East Mmeets Watts, Danger on Tiki Island, and Alien Factor) in the studio, as I previously announced"
Bummer!

Ugh. Well, I'll always have MST3K. I'm just not a fan of live material.

It looks like the CT crew are in discussions about the topic that originally started this thread. This is from a recent interview with Joel.
LAist: You've said that you'd be open to the idea of airing Cinematic Titanic on TV someday. If you did, do you think it might be a live riff, or something like one of your DVDs?
Joel Hodgson: I'm not sure. As a group, we're kind of all over the place on that issue. I think that nothing can compare to our live shows, just because you have instant feedback and there's an energy to it. So personally, I think that's better.
On the other hand, there's also a faction of the fan base that really wants to hear every riff, so we're kind of messing around with the notion of "How do you do both—how do you do it so they can hear everything, and how can you do it so there's still that energy?"
The answer might lie in producing a DVD that includes the option of turning off the audience response. We'll see.

I was listening to some of the Monty Python channel on Sirius. They did the studio version of "The Cheese Shop" sketch, from one of their albums (my guess) with no audience laughter, followed by the one we all know from the Flying Circus series, with an audience. I much preferred the "live" version. The studio version seemed very..."dead"?

Here's the thing: JUST DO SOMETHING!!! There's a segment of your would-be audience that doesn't live near a major metropolitan area and making that trip in this economy isn't feasible. All I know is I'm watching a lot more RT now.
