I suspect the oddest thing about my reading is that I prefer to read lying down. Some people can't, but I'll find myself taking the book to bed at 10 a.m. when sitting up starts to feel uncomfortable.

Hmm, Odd? Is it odd to masturbate while reading “All Creatures Great and Small?”
I’m kidding of course; I’ve never read “All Creatures Great and Small”
Odd, Odd, Odd? Boy I don’t know, I don’t read in the can (I don’t even like being in the can, so screw you Freud), I like to be comfortable and settled when I read, laying back on the couch etc. So I don’t like sitting at a table.
When I would read while at work, I’d stop reading at the final 75 pages because that’s when things would get intense and I wouldn’t want to be bothered or interrupted. It was always at that point, or the nearest chapter to that. Even if I were dying to read on, I’d stop until I got home and could have some undisturbed time to finish with it. So that might be considered odd.
I don’t read as much as I used to because of my eyes, even with reading glasses I have to hold a book 20 yards from my face (or so it seems) and in my old age I just want to kick back and relax and disappear from life, so I don’t read the deep stuff as much. Give me a Michael Connelly or Lee Child mystery these days and I’m happy.

I'll often read 2 books at a time: one in the bathroom and one in the reading room (that isn't my bathroom).

I have found that for reading while commuting, short story collections are perfect!

Sometimes I'll start a book, get really into it, put it aside for a few months without even looking at it, then pick it right back up again, usually finishing it, and not have a clue how it began.

I have found that for reading while commuting, short story collections are perfect! I've been all about audiobooks for a long time now. I listen to them every day while riding on the bus or walking around, and it makes the morning so much more bearable.

Do you recommend a particular type of book? I love the idea, but everytime I get one it's usually just an author or book I already like, and I wind up disappointed by it.

Don't get books ready by the author, unless they're known for a good speaking voice (like, say, Neil Gaiman). They end up trying to be dramatic and killing their own stuff.
For short periods of time, I find nonfiction works best. It's hard to listen to novels in short chunks since I keep having to back up to remember the exact situation of where I left off.
And poetry is awesome when read by good readers. I have all of Paradise Lost on my ipod, as well as a bunch of Shakespeare, and I just dip into it when I'm in the mood. But I hear/find things in a poem I've read and taught for years that's new when I hear someone perform it.

One book at a time. I mostly read when I'm finished with dinner for a couple of hours. (I'm trying to break the TV habit). At least once a week I will wake up around 2 am. I then read for about an hour, sometimes more, then fall back to sleep.
