I've been playing the hell out of GTA: Vice City Stories since it came out on PS2. I've also been wasting a lot of time playing the Kingdom of Loathing. You guys should all check it out if you haven't already.

I got most of the way through KOL but I'm on hiatus right now. I just don't get that type of game, that's way further than I've ever made it in any other RPG-type game. I try to plug away at it, but I am never able to finish any quests until I've leveled up several times. I just don't really understand the cooking/items/etc, and I don't like having to look it all up in a wiki or something.

These days I have to keep away from Computer Games. I had a nightmare the other day that my daughter had a bloody nose, but I didn't tend to her because I was too busy playing Civilization IV. That would never happen in reality of course, but the message from my subconcious is clear enough.

So, uh, anyone hear about that new Xbox 360 that appears to be coming out next month? Anyone want to buy me one? *weak smile* (I feel so oddly unprepared for this thread. I have no idea why.) I'm still calling that a rumor until MS announces it. If it is true though I think MS should wait until they're prepared to drop the other two SKU's $100 and at built-in wi-fi (that would justify the $479 price tag a bit more). Dropping the other two SKU's price also puts the 360 in the $299 and $199 sweet spots and puts the Core head-to-head with the Wii. I do like the fact that MS (again, IF the rumor is true) would include the HDMI cable, something that Sony did not. I also think some of the accessories need to come down in price, namely the MU's and the HDD. I think the 20GB should drop to $50 and then sell the 120GB for $100-$150. In other news, if you hadn't heard, DMC4 has been announced for 360, and another PS3 exclusive disappears. Also, there is mixed reports on how the PS3 is doing in EU/AU. The launch events in the UK, France, and Australia have apparently been a bust but some are saying that they've already sold half of their initial shipment (about 500k), which, although not necessarily something to go ape about, is by no means a bad number. Of course its more likely that someone pulled that number out of their ass, as tracking real numbers in EU doesn't happen the same way it does here. I'm personally currently playing the Wii, which I got recently. I haven't even touched any of the games I got with it as I'm hooked on Wii Sports. Monday I start my Mod Development II class, my team is making a mod for NWN (the original). I'm worried about it though because I was hoping we'd get something done during the time between the first class and this one.

I thought Hugh was kidding. What is this, a new updated 360 or something?

Yep. Codename "Zephyr", product name Xbox 360 Elite. Its supposed to be a black 360 with HDMI and a 120GB HDD. Again, I'm hoping that they reconsider adding built in wi-fi and drop the other two SKU's price by $100 each. I think that would make the most sense if its going up against the lesser PS3's (and seemingly non-existant) SKU at the $499 ($479) price point.
Also, again, the Elite hasn't been confirmed by MS as of yet.

Like I said earlier, I managed to get a lot of the way through by brute force, but I just haven't really understood what it takes to get beyond that. (i.e., cooking, creating supplies, and getting real uses out of items).

I figured it out if I just have fun and learn for my first couple of incarnations, the ascensions are REALLY where it starts getting fun.

Just a bit of some Zelda-related pondering for me while I played ALttP today...
1. The more I think about it, the cooler the Gerudo are. Think about it. They get those awesome solid black Stallions, Ganondorf, Koume and Kotake, an incredible soundtrack, many great locales, and Nabooru. Hey, if the Gerudo and Twili are the same(which I think they are), then they get Midna too. How can a tribe with Midna and Nabooru not be awesome?
2. I just read the updated Gannon-banned.com again and I am once again amazed by how frank TSA is. Take the next piece of advice, as it comes from both a fellow user and a friend. DON'T MAKE TSA MAD, nothing good can come of it. Thats not to say TSA isn't one of the funniest people around(even if he doesn't mean to be) and doesn't do great things for his fellow Zelda fans. Including, but not limited to, putting the entire TP soundtrack on his site, a deed I can't thank him enough for(thanks TSA!). But on his wrong side, watch out. Probably the defining "TSA Moment" on Gannon-banned is when he got done writing a rule about calling the games by their made up, "fan names", like LttP, TOoT, and WW. He posted the three opening screens for each game, and at the bottom of it he wrote, "Learn to Read". Describes TSA to the letter.
3. Probably the thing I most love about TP is that you can never predict how cool the game is until you've beaten everything, experienced everything, and seen everything, and even then you may not know how cool it is. A good example would be the 4th Dungeon boss. It's a great fight, easily one of the best in Zelda's history. After it, you're thinking the game couldn't get cooler. But boom, then the game gives you a cinema with Ganondorf taunting on a solid black Gerudo Stallion in front of a wall of fire. Doesn't get better, right? Wrong! A few moments later, you get a shot of Ganondorf clenching his fist in the purest anger and fury with a sword sticking through him. Don't get me wrong, anything Ganondorf does is automatically cool just by virtue of the fact he does it, but thats pretty cool even by his standards.

Microsoft is useless about confirming rumors - they don't announce anything until they're good and ready. There's a big article about the new Xbox in next month's Game Informer, confirmed to be legit. The system will be a limited edition black version with the aforementioned features (120GB, HDMI), as well as the new innards that help it run cooler and not allow you to fry an egg on it. (For serious.) Once the limited edition black 360 runs out, the new upgrades will be transferred to the white Premium edition and will, presumably settle back into the $399 pricetag. That's the situation as it stands, to the public's knowledge. I've heard nothing even remotely definite about future price drops, though. I'm not often one to bank on rumors, but this one is nearly official. Bet on it. And now FFXIII's exclusivity has been called into question. Now that would really suck for Sony. This is total rumor and speculation, but it wouldn't surprise me. For developers, it just makes sense to make multiplatform games, when the PS3 has so comparitively few users.

I agree, Sony can't lose any exclusives at this point. Imagine what would happen if they lost MGS4 or DMC4 "Sony exclusive" status. The PS3 would be dead in the water right now. Sony is skating on thin ice these days, and things have already gone badly enough for them to have anything more. Game rumors tend to come true nowadays...
