Here is a thread to discuss your favorite (or possibly least-favorite) skits from Monty Python's Flying Circus. You can also probably talk about your favorite characters from the troupe.
Probably my personal favorite from the show was the Dennis Moore Sketch, where Cleese plays a highway robber who seeks out lupins to give to the poor. I liked the opening where Moore's threats about his lethality went off on a tangent about tree species and I found it hilarious when the singers snuck in that last lyric of the Dennis Moore Ballad. Another favorite sketch of mine is The Upper Class Twit of the Year which gets really amusing when the twits start running face-first into a hurdle. Two of my favorite Gilliam cartoons where The Statue Played Like A Flute and The New Royal Nay-Vee.
Graham Chapman
Chapman seemed to play more often straight men in the sketches. Perhaps his most outlandish character was Mr. Neutron. I think he also, with much irony, played stereotypical homosexuals, with a favorite example being the Canadian ballet fan from the Mr. Neutron episode.
John Cleese
When Cleese plays the straight man, it's highly contrasts with how much his fellow players dwarf beneath him. I think a favorite and scary performance by Cleese is as Mr. Hilter. I was also very amused when he played the announcer wearing women's swimwear.
Eric Idle
Idle's semi-androgynous appearance allowed him to play a different variety of drag character than his fellow players. One small bit played by Idle was as John Lennon saying, "I'm starting a war for peace."
Terry Jones
Jones played the best bag ladies, with my favorites being the spam waitress and the game show contestant who wants a blow to the head. I also found hilarious his performance as the stripping commerce secretary.
Michael Palin
Palin plays the slimy toad like a natural and was by far the best of the Gumbies.
Terry Gilliam
Gilliam appears so little on screen. He does a very funny job as Cardinal Fang, but I have a personal affection for The Man With A Stoat Through His Head.
Carol Cleveland
A favorite bit from Cleveland would be the woman removing her black lingerie; it's not really funny, but I just like seeing Carol Cleveland in black lingerie.
